Minutes of the Combined Caucus/Council Meeting
7-16-07
Page 21
Council President Buckholtz mentioned that one of the key programs we have coming up is the
Writer's Conference being put on by Fairmount Center for the Arts and sponsored by Ohio
Northern Live, WCPN and a number of others. Mr. Buckholtz advised that one of the most well-
known authors who will be speaking and workshopping at this two-day event which is scheduled
for October 12th and 13th is appearing at Joseph Beth Books tomorrow night. Her name is Ann
Hood. She has written many books with the current bestseller, The Knitting Circle. She will be
doing a book signing. Mr. Saponaro advised it is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Mr. Buckholtz stated it
will be at Legacy Village at Booksellers. Mr. Buckholtz will be heading up there. She is one of
the keynote speakers and facilitators at the Writer's Conference. This is a real deal. Also Maxy
Doria Russell, a fine writer who lives right here in Cleveland will be speaking. Mr. Saponaro
stated that Ron Powers will be speaking. Mr. Buckholtz stated that it is being advertised. We
might as well mention it here. That is certainly one of the key programs that we are whipping
this room into shape for.
Mayor Rinker stated that what makes it a good showcasing event is that a lot of people have
always assumed that an auditorium is just for plays or musical performances. We have definitely
done that with Singing Angels who premiered our facility a couple of years back. The fact that
we have a writer's workshop will showcase the fact that we have seats that have portable writing
that you had back at school. It is a way to show off the versatility of this auditorium. That is
important for people to recognize that we look at this as a full serviee facility that it will be able
to be the venue for a lot of different kinds of events. It looks like things are going to start to
come together well. It is going to be nice.
Council President Buckholtz advised that this is not just a Hillcrest area event, this is a
Northeastern Ohio event. People have inquired from Columbus. They will be coming from all
over.
Motion to authorize expenditure in the amount of $17,900.00 to Giorgi Interior
Systems for patching and painting of Civic Center Auditorium ceiling.
Mr. Saponaro, seconded by Mrs. Mills, made a motion to authorize expenditure in the amount of
$17,900.00 to Giorgi Interior Systems for patching and painting of Civic Center Auditorium
ceiling.
Council President Buckholtz asked if there was any discussion.
Roll Call: AYES: All Motion Carried
NAYS: None Expenditure Authorized
