Minutes of the Combined Caucus/Council Meeting
7-16-07
Page 7
Mayor Rinker commented that this is really a very impressive complex of goals and already the
fact that we are on the track on the CIZ program, we are only going to see good rewards. To put
it in perspective, for years we have been talking about what we do in addition to Progressive
Casualty Insurance Company, where are the other sources of revenue, what is the lifestyle going
to be for Mayfield Village. We have 2020 vision, we went through the exercise of getting a sense
of direction for the Village entirely again looking at that big picture item. More recently, we are
working closely with D.B. Hartt, City Architecture and 2020 again to go to an implementation
phase. We have been focusing much more on the Beta Park area. We have talked about it in a
variety of ways. Between the infrastructure with WiFi, WiMax, with looking at incentive
programs for businesses, we have hoped for and we are starting to see that we have turned a
corner for really laying in a plan for future development in this axea that is going to be hugely
exciting, truly a mixed use environment where the economic development is going to be a sound
strategy. For our residents, we are going to have opportunities for people who are able to move
in at an early age and stay longer because we will be able to have the living component for this if
things go well and then finally just the overall ability to diversify the portfolio in looking to the
future market and area of businesses that are cropping up that are much more tech oriented.
Mayor Rinker sees the opportunity for us to tie in more with what is being offered out at
University Circle, the technology advancements we are seeing out of the Cleveland Clinic or
University Circle period. These are all potentials right now. This plan that Phil has laid out gives
us in a schematic way the beginnings of something that could be very very impressive and
exciting. If you caught the last observation Phil made on it, it is that this may be the kind of
thing that eventually other communities in the area will be able to tap in to. We are looking to
the school district as the nexus for at least the area communities as a way to start leveraging these
dollars and have a real solid impact on the quality of life with our Village. This is real serious
stuff and Mayor Rinker sees only good things coming out of it. It is pretty exciting.
Mr. Buckholtz added that Mr. Brett is not very good at taking a compliment, but this is great.
Mr. Brett has some brilliant talent. If anyone did not pick up what this report is about, they
really need to sit down and read it again.
Mr. Buckholtz asked if there were any questions on the budget at this point. There were none.
POLICE - Chief Dearden
There was nothing to report.
PARKS & RECREATION - Bill Thomas
Mr. Thomas reported that we had wonderful press coverage both from the Sun Press and the
News-Herald at our annual Fourth of July celebration at the pool on June 30th. Thank you. Two
chartered buses are full to go to Lake Chautauqua on Saturday, July 281h. We are going to have a
cruise on the Summer Wind and lunch and get a tour of Lake Chautauqua. All of our summer
day camps will conclude on Friday. Our sports specialty camps will continue through mid-
August. Paxkview Pool has a wonderful response to our scuba program. There are approximately
25 youth and adult signed up. The Fall brochure will be mailed the week of August 6 `". The
