Minutes of the Council Meeting
October 22, 2007
Page 2
COMMENTS FROM COUNCIL PRESIDENT BUCKHOLTZ
Mr. Buckholtz welcomed a high school student from NDCL and some students from Mayfield
High School eager to learn the inner workings of government.
DEPARTMElVT HEAD REPOfltTS:
SERVICE - Doulzlas Metzung
There was no report.
BUILDING - John Marrelli
Mr. Marrelli introduced the new building inspector, Walt Ballester who was present this evening.
He started two weeks ago. Mr. Marrelli put the Heinen's proposal in Council packets which
includes a colored map of the area and proposed improvements and a letter of explanation.
Heinen's is proposing three additions, one to the south for kitchens and coolers, one to the east
for seating and one on the northeast corner which would be an entrance only. Mr. Marrelli
would like to get Council's thoughts about the proposal, especially the common space usage
between Mayfield Village and Heinen's. We will advise Heinen's to go to Planning
Commission as soon as possible. Mr. Marrelli wanted to lay this out to Council now because it
involves our property and their property. There are a couple of items here that we would be
responsible for. Mr. Marrelli would like to get Council's thoughts on this. If anyone has any
questions about this, he would like to entertain them now.
Dr. Parker asked if they know in terms of numbers what the traffic flow will be through our
entryway off of Wilson Mills. Mr. Marrelli replied that we do not have any data on what they
expect as far as increased traffic. What we would perceive is that persons coming to the Civic
Center or going to lunch from anywhere else would be parking along Heinen's north wall and
using the north entrance to have lunch in the eastern new cafeteria area, grocery shop, come back
out, pick up their car and go down the driveway to the drive through and pick up their groceries
and then head off back to work. That is the concept here, to provide another place in town for
lunch and to get your groceries. This will also serve as a gathering area during the times when
we have performances, for instance. If people want to gather and be outside on a nice summer's
night, they can go out and sit on the patio, maybe get a sandwich and just congregate.
Mr. Marquardt stated that he thinks it is premature to address this at this meeting. Planning and
Zoning is better equipped to go through the details. It is not necessary for Council at this time to
make a decision. There are no details. There is nothing to talk about. Mr. Marrelli stated that
there won't be any details yet, but since it involves this property, he wanted to get Council's
thoughts, it's a good idea, it could be a good idea, it's a horrible idea. Mr. Marrelli thought he
would at least throw it out there so Council would be familiar with it before we get into the
details to flush everything out. Mr. Marquardt indicated that there is not enough information.
Mr. Buckholtz stated that there is nothing to vote on here. It is going to P&Z. Mr. Marrie added
