Minutes of the Council Meeting
November 26, 2007
Page 2
the main steeple. This will probably be a quantum leap in cost, so it may be a little while before the
second haircut comes along.
CONIlVIENTS FROM COUNCIL PRESIDENT BUCKHOLTZ
Mr. Buckholtz welcomed high school students from NDCL and advised them not to be afraid to
ask questions if they have any. It is always a pleasure to see them in the crowd.
DEPARTMENT HEAD REPORTS:
SERVICE - Douglas Metzung
Mr. Metzung reported that leaf season is in the middle of all of its glory. We typically will stay
out until the second week in December. If we still have needs after that, we will stay out until
the weather closes in and the snow comes. It is all weather-dependent.
Mr. Metzung hoped to be able to announce tonight that they opened the path from Wiley Park to
Paxkview Pool. He hopes that by the next week or so you will be able to walk from Wiley Park
to Parkview over. the rivers and under the roads and not get muddy. Linking these two parks was
certainly something we hoped to do this year. We still plan on getting it done this year.
Lastly, Mr. Metzung showed a drawing of an item coming up later on the- agenda for URS for
$5,000.00 for conceptual drawings for tree planting. We have been working with the State of
Ohio on this. They have offered us 200 trees to plant in the I-271/Wilson Mills intersection. We
have worked with Yvonne from URS in an effort to get some drawings done. Mr. Metzung
pointed out the tree plantings and projected wildflowers on the drawing. Areas of plantings
show that as you come to the intersections, or compression points, there will be more heavy
landscaping of planted areas with flowers and signature rocks. The $5,000.00 will allow us to
finalize these plans and will allow Yvonne to come out and do the site work with the planters.
We hoped to have it done this fall, but it won't be finished until the spring.
Mayor Rinker added his thanks to Carole Marrie and Jean Britton who were in the audience this
evening. It has been a labor of love for Jean especially and Caxole as well. They spent a lot of
time on this. The coordination of the trees and wildflowers is something we and the
Beautification Committee have discussed. It has been a long time coming. It is really nice to see
this coming together.
BUILDING - John Marrelli
Mr. Marrelli reported that some time at the end of this week at Preformed Line Products on Beta
Drive, a new gas well will be drilled between the Preformed Line building and the vacant old
building next door. We just got notification of that today. They were issued a drilling permit by
the state. We do have pending legislation that you will be getting at the next Caucus after we go
through final review with the Ordinance Review Committee to deal with these issues so we have
more notice and information in a more timely fashion.
