Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council
Tuesday, February 21, 2012
Page 7
Mr. Thomas replied, and that's the beauty of my cohorts who are Recreation Directors, from
Hudson to Mentor. They advertise our programs. T'hey at least do that to promote the program,
but they don't offer it there. Solon Blue Ribbon, Beachwood.
Mrs. Regan replied, the reality is, luckily there aren't enough numbers in one small community
to support a program. So, we have been able to collaborate together and everybody does
something. Beachwood holds some activities. Lake Metropazks hold some.
Mr. Thomas added, Cleveland Metroparks.
Mrs. Regan continued, everybody helps out. One can't support it. Especially adults with
disabilities because they don't have any money. One of our parents from Solon wrote a grant to
help the LEAP program through Cuyahoga Cou.nty pay for those adults to participate: Otherwise
everyone would be home every night of the week. It's really nice.
Council President Buckholtz stated, I will say it again. It's been a long road and it really looks
like this is paying off. It doesn't always take money, but it takes perseverance which you have
and it takes that insane amount of energy that he has.
Mr. Marrie stated, I think they sfiould be very proud of themselves, the whole group that is doing
this because they certainly have improved the lives of a lot of people. As you mentioned Ann,
there's a lot of them that would have just been sitting at home doing nothing. This has not only
helped them both physically but mentally and it has just improved their whole life in every way.
I commend all of you. Young man, I think that was a great job.
Mr. Thomas replied, I plan to submit his work for an awazd next year at the State Conference for
2012. It would be too late for 2011.
Mrs. Regan added, if Mayfield Village didn't take a leadership role, we wouldn't be where we
aze. Thank you for your support.
Council President Buckholtz replied, you're welcome. Do you see this as somethi.ng that will
continue to grow? Do you think other communities will do this?
Mr. Thomas replied, we hope so. It takes up a lot of time, but with a committee, it helps
tremendously.
Council President Buckholtz stated, I am sure you will keep us posted. If there aze any events
we can a11 go to, we would love to do that. Thank you.
Mr. Thomas sta.ted, thanks again for the time. And thanks again, Michael:
ARCHITECT - Ron Dinardo
There was nothi.ng to report.
