Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council
Monday, July 16, 2012
Page 2
Some of you may well remember the circumstances surrounding his coming in to Mayfield
Village were less than auspicious. We really had had kind of a tough struggle internally. I guess
the best way to put it would be a power play that ultimately resulted in our former
Superintendent not returning for the following school year. A search was undertaken and really a
lot of thought and a lot of community input went in to that search. Dr. Price came in to a district
somewhat in turmoil and he turned it around. We really have a lot to be thankful for for a School
District that historically has enjoyed a good reputation. He restored a lot of the luster for our
School District, over the last several years especially. He recently was recognized by the
Buckeye Association for School Administrators as Ohio's Superintendent of the Year. That
alone is a measure of his many accomplishments. We are grateful for his contribution of effort.
Our community has fared better for it.
Without anything further, Dr. Price, I would like to award this Outstanding Citizen plaque.
Dr. Price stated, I would just like to tell Council and the Mayor and everyone, it's been an honor
and a privilege to work in this community. It's actually been fun. I won't say that I would never
say, just don't pay me for today, but it was really, it's just been a lot of fun. And now I am ready
for summer vacation. Thank you very much.
Council President Buckholtz stated, we have refreshments and will take a few minutes right now.
Council took a break at approximately 8:10 p.m.
Council reconvened at approximately 8:20 p.m.
PRESENTATION BY JAMES S. McKNIGHT, ASLA
Mr. McKnight introduced himself. I am a registered Landscape Architect in the State of Ohio. I
have been asked to give a little introduction of my work and some of the things I can help with
here in the Village of Mayfield.
Essentially what I would like to do is introduce our work and say that we are Landscape
Architects in principal at McKnight & Associates. We are a firm of three registered Landscape
Architects. Our office is in downtown Cleveland. The majority of our work is a11 right in the
Cleveland area and the suburbs of Cleveland. We extend down to Akron, the University of
Akron, as far south as Westfield Insurance down in Medina County. and as far east as some work
out in Ashtabula County and essentially in Lorain to the west. We are in the Northeast Ohio area
and that is where the majority of our work has occurred.
Over the last 20 years we have had our practice going. I started as a self- proprietor and then as I
mentioned I added a couple of associates who are also registered Landscape Architects.
Landscape Architecture is a registration separate from architecture or engineering. Essentially
our work is in the outdoor environment. The majority of our work is all in parks and open space
