Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council ,
Monday, July 16, 2012
Page 3
work including streetscapes and landscape design as well. It's very, focused on outdoor
environments, outside of buildings and in conjunction with engineers. Tom will attest to this that
engineers often deal with underground utilities and grading and infrastructure. We work in
conjunction with engineers to actually make things look as presentable and aesthetically pleasing
as possible in the outdoor environment.
Mr. McKnight presented a powerpoint. Some of the recent projects that our office has been
involved in is the redevelopment of Ghester Commons downtown. It's now known as Perk Plaza.
This is at East 12t` and Chester. It's a$3,000,000 park that was just completed in December of
2011. It's a dynamic park space in the downtown Cleveland environment. We worked in
conjunction with a Landscape Architect in New York City. He did the actual design and a lot of
the sketch work. Our office actually did the construction plans and oversaw the construction of
the park. The features are the trails that you see in the lower left picture and then substantial
greenspace for the residential environmenf there along East 12'h around Chester.
We are just now this week finishing up a zoned recreation site which is a 22-acre park on the
west side of Cleveland at West 650' and Lorain. It involves some active recreation fields.
There's two baseball fields, two soccer fields and then a quite extensive system of parks,
playgrounds, a sprayground, a small skateboard area as well as a fitness area for seniors. There's
also a dog park on that side.
We were involved extensively with planning along the Rockefeller Park corridor about three
years ago. This led then to what would be the redevelopment. Essentially we feel like we are
fixing the parkway where Martin Luther King, Jr. Parkway comes through at 105'h Street.
There's currently what we call suicide circle. We are eliminating that circle and clearing up the
transportation and path system through that intersection near the Cancer Survivor's Monutnent.
The image at the top is a series of bridges that will go through the park and link the park from
Wade Park and Wade Ova1 over to what Case is calling their West Campus on the west side of
East lOSth Street. That will go under consiruction in the next three months with anticipated
completion in 2014.
On a much smaller scale, we completed a park for Stephanie Tubbs Jones. This is her sculpture.
This is near the VA. This is also adjacent to Wade Oval and the University Circle azea of
Cleveland. It involves some innovative lighting techniques, a lot of public art, tilework and then
the sculpture of Stephanie Tubbs Jones herself. '
We also work extensively at Case Western Reserve University on their campus and redid their
campus fountain area with all pervious pavement and a new drainage system which essentially
eliminated all of the catch basins on that particular site. We continue to work on a range of
projects there including the new plaza that's going around the Museum of Contemporary Art
that's currently under construction. That will be done actually in September of this year.
We are very involved with the Dunham Tavern Museum. I am a trustee down there. That's at
East 67t' and Euclid. We recently purchased an old warehouse building and tore that down. We
are creating a pretty substantial greenspace in the heart of the City.
