Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council
Monday, September 17, 2012
Page 2
Council President Pro Tem Marrie replied, thank you. I can't speak positively on this, but next year is
the third year of the streets in the Kenwood area. Doug, did you want to make any comment on this?
Mr. Metzung replied, that's correct. The Kenwood neighborhood will be next and then the sewer
project in Eastgate, Meadowood and Thornapple. We are reassessing our streets this fall to map out
the next 5 yeazs.
Mrs. Murphy replied, oh, well.
Mayor Rinker interjected, I think Hanover was done three years ago?
Mr. Cappello replied, 2008.
Mr. Metzung confirmed, the chip seal was in 2008.
Mayor Rinker continued, we understand that a lot of people were unhappy with the chip seal but it is
a process we have used throughout the Village where we have asphalt streets and it's designed to
extend the useful life of the streets. They have done it in my neighborhood and a couple other
locations. But again, as Doug is saying, we will look at it. A lot of this is we had some deferred
maintenance. We are picking up areas. Oakwood, Kenwood, Walnut and Sandalwood which are the
concrete streets, part of Thornapple would be included in that. We are likely going to tie Thornapple,
Eastgate and Meadowood together beca.use we have sewer projects there that have been long
outstanding. We have had residents in those neighborhoods looking for that capital improvement for
the better part of the decade. It's a very expensive project so we have been salting away dollars for
that. Typically, when we do a septic to sewer conversion, it's pretty extensive. There's not only the
sewer work that gets done but then there's remediation of the streets. We have had to look at that. So
right now, the next two years are booked. But we will be looking at it, as Doug is sa.ying, overall for
the next 5 year cycle. But to be fair, you have to be aware, it's going to be at least two years before
we can get to it, unless there's some real problem with it. But the physical condition of the street is
still structurally sound, even though aesthetically it's not to your liking.
Regular Council Meeting - August 20, 2012
Mrs. Cinco, seconded by Mrs. Mills, made a motion to approve the minutes as written.
ROLL CALL: AYES: All Motion Carried
NAYS: None Minutes Approved
COMMENTS FROM MAYOR RINKER
Mayor Rinker stated, I hope people have noticed some of the improvement projects that we have
been getting tied together this year. There's the Amphitheatre, renamed The Grove. A group of
