Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council
Monday, September 17, 2012
Page 3
people have expressed interest in looking at future potential for that. That's going to be played
out over time. The grass seed has really taken, despite a very droughty summer in the last week
especially. I was away for a week and to come back and see how green it is it is really striking.
Looking a little farther South, right across from Hickory Hill, you can see that the Library is
going in. They seem to be well ahead of schedule based upon what we understood originally. I
guess they are going to still stick to their program, but they had a dry summer so they are able to
get a head start on a lot of that site development.
Across the street, you notice that we finally razed the buildings there. As predicted, the
Community Room now is quite prominent. That will be a source of future discussion for a lot of
people I am sure, but if you notice today the piles of dirt look like giant gophers have been
through there. That is prepping for the re-blacktopping in front of the Community Room. As the
plan had called for, part of the project will be to improve the parking field there. What we are
also trying to do is make sure that there is appropriate landscaping and screening to help soften
the overall impact of that. Long term, again, that's going to be a question of how the community
really wants to go as far as any future development or non-development on that site.
In the meantime, we have had discussions initiated with Center School. The bus driveway, which
is a one-way out, we are finding that people are, despite history and signage that says there's no
entry, are starting to use that. We have gotten some feedback from the school and we are
actually exploring the potential for some kind of limited two-way use and improvement to the
driveway there because it's pretty well alligatored, but again that's very preliminary. Stay tuned.
The goal is by the time the snow flies that these projects will be looking substantially complete
as far as landscaping.
A final note along that line, we are belatedly going to make some improvements across from
Heinen's, the entry into Aintree Park. The medians that are in there are going to get filled in a
little bit we hope before the snow flies.
COMNIENTS FROM COUNCIL PRESIDENT SUCKHOLTZ
There were no comments.
DEPARTMENT HEAD REPORTS:
SERVICE - Douglas MetzunLy
There was nothing to report.
