Caucus/Regular Council Mtg.
7-14-03
Page 2
been with us since 1975. He was promoted to Sergeant in October 1990. He was
promoted to Lieutenant in June 1999. He has served as the Executive Officer for the
Police Department and when Don Stevens retired, Pat has been serving in the capacity of
Acting Chief since that time for several months and I think we'd all agree that the
transition for all intents and purposes has been seamless. But it is important that we take
note this is something very significant, so we're going to make it official.
Mayor Rinker administered the oath of office to Patrick Dearden as Chief of Police of
Mayfield Village.
^ OATH OF OFFICE -POLICE LIEUTENANT
Mayor Rinker said next is Rich Edelman. Rich was appointed as Patrolman in August of
1990, promoted to Sergeant in May of 1999. He served as a Detective and a Detective
Sergeant from June 30, 1997 to December, 2002. [Mayor Rinker recognized Sgt. Don
Smith in the audience and said he sees he is here to see the fruits of your labors.] He has
a Batchelor of Science Degree in Human Services, specializing in Criminal Justice from
the Thomas A. Edison State College in New Jersey and is pursuing his Master's Degree
in Public Administration at KSU. He has demonstrated outstanding service and
exemplified the best of our Police Department and it is my pleasure to swear you in as
Lieutenant.
Mayor Rinker administered the oath of office to Richard Edelman as Mayfield Village
Police Lieutenant.
MEETINGS TO FOLLOW
Council President Buckholtz said we typically have 2 meetings to follow; we may roll those into
one meeting, we'll discuss that in a minute, but more importantly we have cake and coffee. We'd
like to take a 10-15 minute break and invite everyone for cake and coffee. This is really a great
occasion for us and we are really proud of these guys and proud of the Village. Mayor Rinker
noted Chris Casey, a MV resident, made brownies for this evening and will need a ride home.
Council and Village Officials took a short break for cake and coffee at 8:29 p.m.
They reconvened at approximately 8:45 p.m.
CAUCUS
Council President Buckholtz said the purpose of Caucus is to discuss matters prior to the Regular
Meeting and basically all the items on Caucus are duplicated on the Regular Meeting. If no one
objects, I would like to dispense with the Caucus meeting tonight and go right into the Regular
Meeting of Council.
Mr. Riter said if I could not so much object but I would like to make one comment because there
is one item, I believe, that is on Council Caucus agenda that is not on.....
