Regular & Caucus Minutes
8-18-03
Page 3
--- ~
COMMENTS FROM MAYOR RINKER
Mayor Rinker was not present.
COMMENTS FROM COUNCIL PRESIDENT BUCI~HOLTZ:
Council President Buckholtz said he had asked Council to discuss the funds that were collected
for the 9-1-1 incidents that occurred in New York, Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania. He wants
us to do something with the funds to recognize the incidents. He asked if everyone received a
copy of the information from Lt. Girbino about the fire safety house. (Everyone indicated they
had.)
Chief Mohr said we utilize the County's fire safety house and have taken probably every single
child in first through third grades through it. They must share it with 57 other communities in
Cuyahoga County so trying to schedule it is a job. If we had our own, we could use it to teach
fire safety, bring it to community days, let other schools in the district borrow it, etc. We could
put a tribute to memorialize the 9-1-1 incidents on the side. of it.
Council President Buckholtz said it exceeds the dollars we have but feels this looks like a
creative use of funds and a worthwhile effort. He asked if any grant monies could be rustled up.
Chief Mohr said it is late in the year but could start for 2004.
Dr. Parker asked if we have talked about getting other communities to go in on it; maybe they
could share the cost.
Chief Mohr said no.
Dr. Parker thinks it would be a great use but thinks it would be more efficient if we shared the
cost.
Council President Buckholtz said, for the record, one of the other ideas Councilman Biter and he
shared was to put a memorial in certain areas of town-maybe by Fisher's Tavern (in the center
of town) to do a reflective pond. He doe not think the funds must necessarily be exclusively for
one thing.
Mrs. Cinco said this item was discussed at Safety & Service/Finance this evening.
Dr. Parker said we have a war memorial out front (of Village Hall). It is nice but it might be
nicer to go one step further and make the memorial for all (war veterans and in memory of the
9-1-1 victims.)
Mr. Biter said it may be in the next week or so when S.O.M. opens again and residents see the
beauty of the new road and the waterfalls. Maybe there could be a memorial to the veterans and a
