The pictures do not do it justice.
Maybe it could be called Memorial Falls.
Council President Buckholtz said those are the kinds of ideas he was looking for. He is tossing
this back to Chief Mohr; he would like to discuss the 9-1-1 funds again at the September Caucus.
DEPARTMEI~IT HEAD REPORTS:
Douglas Metzun~ (Service) -said he would like to discuss the item he had on the Caucus
agenda:
Sidewalks in the Aintree area. Mr. Metzung said of the 79 sidewalks that need repaired, 75
could be attributed to tree roots. Residents will be questioning what the Village will do with the
tree roots and the trees. He talked to an arborist. Roots can be cut back and sidewalks can be
replaced in some places. In other areas he is looking at having a survey done to get a handle on
the tree lawn trees. Highland Heights' policy is that the City pays for the sidewalk repair if the
problem was due to tree roots.
Council President Buckholtz questioned if he had figured the cost factors.
Mr. Metzung asked for replacement of the sidewalks? Council President Buckholtz said yes; Mr.
` ~ Metzung replied no.
Dr. Parker asked what percentage of homes have sidewalks in the Village.
Mr. Metzung said there are sidewalks in Aintree and North Aintree. There are some on
Ridgebury and Lander but they have no street trees. There are also some in a small area on
Sandalwood and Walnut.
Dr. Parker said even if we take on the cost, it is contained. He questioned how many lineal feet
of sidewalks there are. (Mr. Metzung didn't know.) Dr. Parker suggested getting an estimate so
Council could get a better feel for the overall cost to the Village.
Mr. Metzung explained why it is a double-edge sword--should we choose not to replace the
sidewalks, residents may demand to have the trees removed. We do not want to lose the canopy
effect that was desired when the trees first went.in (and is just about to be achieved.) He cited
the number of trees per treelawn.
Council President Buckholtz asked if he has any idea about the root system of the trees-if they
affect the sewers.
Mr. Metzung said that would be a County issue. He does not see it as chronic at this point.
Council President Buckholtz requested a detailed report for the September Caucus.
