Regular Council Meeting
9-22-03
Page 10
or three-almost think of a necklace where you've got them linked together but spread out
enough so no one lot becomes an eyesore or overburdens the area as far as drainage goes. The
other question is what should the makeup be. Do we want it paved? We've seen in a couple of
instances but I think we've not taken good enough advantage of the geoblock (which is
something that is-we've looked at it for example up at the AlterCare facility and the Assisted
Living facility on the north side where the fire lane was-we were very seriously looking at
making that fire lane out of this geoblock where grass can grow through it so you sort of screen
it. Then that ended up not succeeding because the concern from the Fire Department was that per
the heavier equipment that it could prove to be problematic. Yet when you look on the north side
of that facility, it is really kind of a shame. There's this huge slab of asphalt which hopefully
never gets used, but there it is. As far as I am concerned it is pretty much an eyesore. Yet that is
an impervious area, it is non-productive, it doesn't look very good and kind of defeats the
purpose in a park-like setting where you have this expanse of asphalt. Again, keep in mind some
of the modalities maybe that rather than asphalt paving, maybe gravel is going to be sufficient or
maybe some geoblock and something on a smaller scale where we could calculate the total
number of parking spaces and you could spread it out maybe in 3 different locations. Again, keep
an open mind to some of the permeations of this.
Council President Buckholtz asked if everyone is satisfied. The conversation we had at Caucus
was just concerned with if we wanted it paved that they would be willing to pave the whole thing
and this letter serves to do that so that would be the maximum responsibility for them. But I
concur, there's lots of creative ways to deal with that down the road. Council President
Buckholtz asked if there were any other comments and there were none.
Roll Call: AYES: All
NAYS: None Motion Carried
Agreement Authorized
^ A motion to authorize a 3-year contract between Mayfield Village and Zambelli
International Fireworks Mfg. Co. Inc. for fireworks an expenditure in the amount
of $10,000
Mr. Riter, seconded by Mr. Marrie, made a motion to authorize a 3-year contract between
Mayfield Village and Zambelli International Fireworks Mfg. Co. Inc. for fireworks an
expenditure in the amount of $10,000 [per year for 3 years.]
Mrs. Mills noted the motion should read "10,000 per year for each of the three years." Mrs.
Mills, Council President Buckholtz and other members of Council expressed thanks to Mr. Vara
for the work he did through this. Council President Buckholtz acknowledged Mr. Vara in the
audience and said it was a wonderful deal he worked up with him; a wonderful letter we got
back. He understands we got more than we even asked for when we went back to them. Mr. Vara
said yes. Council President Buckholtz and several other Council members expressed kudos to
Mr. Vara again. Council President Buckholtz asked if there were any other comments; there were
none.
