Regular Council Meeting
9-22-03
Page 12
Council President Buckholtz said we will also leave this on first reading I believe. The only thing
I want to find out there is we should amend that a little bit for the next read. It's the fire house;
it's not the fire house vehicle. We'll get the description from Chief Mohr for exactly what it is
called.
Lt. Neyman said it is a trailer.
Mrs. Cinco said it is a Fire Safety House.
Lt. Neyman said as of right now, none of the other communities have gotten back to us if they
want to participate. They said that they were interested-but no commitments. Hopefully this
will help.
Mayor Rinker asked Lt. Neyman to give Council, for the record, just some of the details what the
trailer is.
Lt. Neyman said the trailer is a custom-made motor home trailer that has a miniature house built
in it to educate children on various safety problems in their house to teach them about stoves and
fireplaces and what to do if there's smoke, (there's a smoke machine in it), there's an escape
ladder and all kinds of aspects of things kids are going to encounter in a house and what to do if
there's afire--it's all put into this trailer. There are several of them around but currently they are
so well used that you have to put a notice in a year in advance to get it. So, our thought was that
if we had our own we could educate children in the school system a little bit more often and get
everybody through it. That was the thinking of trying to get our own. That way, also, it would be
in good repair when it shows up. When it is used every day, things don't seem to be in the best
of shape and work all the time.
Mrs. Mills said there are 2 styles and showed Council President Buckholtz a flier. He was talking
about one you could pull behind a vehicle.
Council President Buckholtz said there are actually 2 different styles. I'm not sure which one the
Chief had in mind about so we'll get word back to Diane just as far as bringing that back up to
speed just so it's capital letters, the actual brand name of what it is that we want to purchase. I
think it's an excellent idea and I think we should go forward with that keeping it on first read.
Council President Buckholtz asked, any other comments? There were none.
EXECUTIVE SESSION (personnel)
Mrs. Mills, seconded by Dr. Parker, made a motion to recess into executive session to discuss
personnel matters.
Roll Call: AYES: All
NAYS: None Motion Carried
Council President Buckholtz said we will not be voting on any other matters at the end of the
meeting so our guests are welcome to adjourn if they'd like.
