Regular Council Meeting
9-22-03
Page 2
~~
Joe Caione, 6003 Castlehill, Highland Heights, said he wants to re-emphasize what Mr. Wolfe was
just saying. We really do need more area recreation for our youth. I know we have some facilities in
the area but based on Mayfield Village, Mayfield Heights and Highland Heights' general school
district community, we do need a lot more facilities. Bill and Danielle have done a great job trying to
facilitate that many times with scheduling, moving people around but the facilities just aren't there. I
really hope that you guys consider it. These ball diamonds will help everyone-not just the youth of
our community because we have leagues in there for 35 and older, 18 and older-it's just not the
actual youth-it's also us-the adults-and everyone that plays baseball. I really think it'll be a
great asset. I know it costs money but I think it would really help the community and really, really be
used an awful lot. It wouldn't be just sitting idle. I hope you guys vote for the ball diamonds. Thank
you.
Chris Batcheller, 6784 Wilson Mills Road (a Mayfield Village resident his whole life) -said he
wants to talk from a different perspective on the softball diamonds. I have been playing for the past 3
years in both the Summer and Fall adult men's 18 and over league. I am really excited about the new
fields. I know there are going to be 300' fences. It is very exciting-both for my team and various
other individuals that I've talked with that not only participate currently in Mayfield Village but also
have in the past and, hopefully in the future. I am really looking forward to the new facility over
there. I think if the fields are going to be built, lights are important. For most of us that work during
the day, the only opportunity for us to play is at night. Having the lights there will allow for more
games-not only in the Summer but especially in the fall when it gets dark a lot earlier. Without
lights, there is not a lot of opportunities to get games in--in the Fall. I think the Fall is important
because most communities have leagues in the Summer. Especially around here in the Fall where
there is not as many communities with leagues. (For instance, the other school district communities
do not have leagues in the Fall.) I think it is important to get lights out there so that both fields can
be in operation year `round at night when we are able to play. Again, just hope you consider this and
just wanted to give you a perspective from the adult side, the adult league. Thanks.
Council President Buckholtz thanked each speaker for speaking (after they spoke.)
CONSIDERATION Oli MINUTES:
Public Hearing Meeting -July 14, 2003
Dr. Parker, seconded by Mrs. Cinco, made a motion to approve the minutes.
Roll Call: AYES: All
NAYS: None Motion Carried
Minutes Approved
Regular Council Meetinggust 18, 2003
Mr. Biter, seconded by Dr. Parker, made a motion to approve the minutes.
Mrs. Mills said she will abstain; she was not at the meeting.
