ROUGHDRAFT - NOT REVIEWED OR APPROVED BY COUNCIL
10-20-03
Regular Council Meeting
Page 17
'~
Council President Buckholtz said your comments are noted but not necessarily agreed with.
Mr. Christian said well I am going to go to every resident down there and let them know what you
are doing.
Dr. Parker said I was going to say in all fairness we probably should notify the residents.
Mr. Christian said and let everybody come up here and express their opinions again to what you are
trying to pull.
Council President Buckholtz said well we have a public meeting coming-well the Vision 2020; it's
not the same forum but we do have a public meeting and---
Mr. Christian said it's not the same forum.
Council President Buckholtz said but it's the character of the Village and you know, I would
challenge you to be a liaison for that neighborhood, bring all the residents you'd like, we'd be happy
to discuss it and look at what's being proposed. You know, I just have one thing-I just want to hold
up this picture that was passed around and I don't know if it got out to the crowd but you know, I
- mean, this is the kind of stuff we like doing here in the Village. I mean when we characterize things
of like running away and doing things behind people's back, if you want to go door to door, why
don't you take the picture with you? I'm not saying that this is what medians on S.O.M. are going to
look like, but I am talking about planning for this community and planning for the future. And this is
what we talked about at Caucus meetings and committee meetings and this is what we worked on.
So if this is your--you know, I mean, this is what I would characterize it the way I would like to see
it....
Mr. Christian said this is a little, tiny side street off in the middle of no where; not a main state
highway running down through the Village. You're going to have people trying to turn and if you've
got stuff like this in the middle of the road, how are you going to see to make alert-hand turn?
Mr. Marquardt said Mr. President; I think Mr. Christian's point is well taken. You make a lot of
noise about having community involvement in this decision-making process. He's absolutely
correct. Council's vote was as stated to stop the median at St. Bart's. We've had this at a Caucus
meeting and we've had it at this meeting. You want to talk about community participation-that was
the understanding of what was going to happen along there. We didn't bring any community in to
even voice-to give them a thing to voice their opinion on this one. So I think his point is very well
taken. We make a lot of noise about community involvement but when it comes down to making a
decision or changing something-that's what we did here. Even the S.O.M. Widening Committee
wasn't informed that this would happen.
Mr. Christian said there are no more S.O.M. Center Widening Committee meetings anymore that I
i. know of. It's just kind of dropped off the face of the map.
-'
