ROUGHDRAFT -NOT REVIEWED OR APPROVED BY COUNCIL
10-20-03
Regular Council Meeting
Page 16
Mr. Christian said without asking any of the residents?.Without notifying any of the residents, this
Council has decided that more or less screw the residents and say this is what we are going to do
Mayor Rinker said well, Mr. Christian, that is your characterization.
Mr. Christian said that's what you are telling me.
Mayor Rinker said I had gotten a totally different read from the community. I will be the first to say
that your view is very much at odds with mine.
Mr. Christian said you don't live there.
Council President Buckholtz said let me add something on exactly that note if I can. I sit on the
S.O.M. Widening Committee and I attended those meetings. And we went back and forth-and this
was not an easy decision ever from S.O.M. Widening. There was a lot offlip-flopping back. But the
point I want to make because it was my Council-we suggested residents to sit on that committee.
And I chose Don Abate who does live on S.O.M. Center, right near Highland. Actually it was his
vote, I believe, that made the difference. But again, we're not going to argue it here. Everything is
documented and part of what you are saying is true. Situations have changed; things have changed;
we are looking to add more median-not necessarily the whole way down. But Mr. Abate did voice
the vote where he decided yes he would like medians in front of his house.
Mr. Christian said he's not here now.
Council President Buckholtz said right; he's not. But I voted along with him at that meeting.
Mr. Christian said but a lot of other people voted against it.
Council President Buckholtz said but again he was arepresentative---
Mr. Christian said and Council let all the people living on the street know that there wasn't going to
be that median-we came in and we looked at all the plans. The plans were laid out. All the people
on the street said fine, there's going to be median after the Church. Now you are telling me, we all
got together and decided we are just going to put medians in anyway. That's what you are telling me.
Council President Buckholtz said again, I would defer that's your characterization-we had
drawings that showed a lot of different perspectives on the road-with different medians-----
Mr. Christian said all the residents were here. That's the last the residents heard. This is the way it's
going to be. You don't have to worry, we're not going to put medians any further than the Church.
Because all of that up there, there are no driveways and everything to get upnow you are telling '
me now we're going to run medians all the way down. That has changed from what you've told
everybody down that street. And I am sure not everybody down that street knows that you're doing
this. You're just sneaking in the back door.
