~~,~LD~, MAYFIELD VILLAGE
(p ~h ~,
6621 Wilson Mills Road Mayfield Village, Ohio 44143
-~ ,,, _ ~ : ,~ ~ . ~ COMMISSION ON AGING
(216) 461-2210
ELJNICE KALINA
ayor COMMISSION ON AGING/ HUMAN SERVICES Director of Human Services
November 17, 2003
The flu shot program October 27 went extremely well. Two hundred thirty-seven
persons received the vaccine, and three people received the pneumonia vaccine.
The Card Group enjoyed a delicious Halloween luncheon Thursday, October 30
before the regular card session. Twenty-seven people participated in this event
which was funded by the accumulated 25 cents per person admission fees paid at
each session.
Plans are in motion for the Holiday warty -Satur ay, Dece~er 1 More than
30 reservations have already been received including several from Governor's Village.
I met with Howard Berlas, the new administrator of Schneurmann House in Mayfield
Heights a few weeks ago. I learned at that time that Mayfield Village has some
participants in both their home-delivered meals program and their on-site lunch
.program. These programs are partially funded by the Western Reserve Agency on
Aging (35~). Both of these programs exist in part by donation by recipients, the
%~~ suggested amount being one dollar. People in 'the area can also receive bus trans-
~..~ portation to the lunch program for a fee of 50 cents each way.
By the terms of the contract with WRAA, Schneurmann House cannot increase the
.amount of the suggested donation. There currently exists a deficit in the funding
of this program which Schneurmann House is looking to offset by appealing to
communities whose residents benefit from these programs. We are currently studying
this situation and will be advising Council of our findings.
As a board member of Hillcrest Meals on Wheels I participated in their Craft
Fair November 8 to help to raise funds for the group.
I am submitting a cppy of the obituarty of Carolyn Warren which appeared in
today's Plain Dealer. They erroneously stated her residence before Breckinridge
as being Mayfield Heights instead of Mayfield Village. Carolyn was a delightful
lady who participated in our card group even after she moved. She was an
excellent bridge player which should have been included in her article. I
notified the P.D. regarding the error/ omission of her Mayfield Village residency.:
Respectfully subm~tted,
~(.t~~ CAS y ~
r
Eunice G. Kalina,
Director of Human Services
