Regular Council Meeting Minutes
10-18-10
Page 13
Dr. Parker replied, I'm not questioning that Highland Heights didn't do a good job writing the
grant.
Council President Buckholtz stated, if you have a question, I think it would be for us, I would
defer to the Chief and obviously he wouldn't have brought it to us if he didn't think it was
worthy of participating in.
Dr. Parker stated, the reality of it is is that no matter how much money "we're spending", we are
still spending $5,000. The question becomes, are we spending $5,000 worth of taxpayer money
on a well-spent project. Maybe it is philosophical, but we are still spending money and the
question becomes, are we actually getting $25,000 worth of materials, no matter what somebody
wants to call it worth for our $5,000? That's my question.
Council President Buckholtz stated, we don't need to get $25,000 worth of materials to make our
expenditure valid, I don't think. The grant has been written by another community and we're
just asked to participate in it. It's kind of like the old question and I think we can leave it at this.
I'll use my position as the Chair to say, we've talked about it enough. It's kind of like the old
Pentagon paying $800 for a toilet seat cover or something. We have no control over that. The
grant was written, they're disbursing the grant. It would be an interesting question. This body
would love to hear from you when you attend the next Highland Heights Council meeting and
pose those questions. We will anxiously await the responses, if I may say, most respectfully.
Roll Ca11: AYES: All Motion Carried
NAYS: None Expenditure Authorized
Motion to authorize expenditure in the amount of $3,954.13 to Phillips
Electric/Redmond Waltz for repair of pool pump.
Council President Buckholtz stated we are adding $250 which will be explained in a moment so
the final figure is actually $4,204.13.
Mrs. Mills, seconded by Dr. Parker, made a motion to authorize expenditure in the amount of
$4,204.13 to Phillips Electric/Redmond Waltz for repair of pool puxnp.
Council President Buckholtz asked Mr. Thomas, what's the $250?
Mr. Thomas reported that he received a call from Service at around 4:26 this afternoon. The
$250 is for the impellor to add an epoxy coating on the impellor. The analogy was when you
rustproof your car. We are doing same thing to the impellor so we anticipate getting an
approximately 3-5 years additional life on the motor because of the epoxy coating that we're
going to be putting on the impellor.
