DRAFT
Regular Council Meeting
9/26/05
Page 23
ANY OTHER MATTER THAT MAY COME BEFORE COUNCIL
Mr. Metzung indicated that he previously made the request for authorization to go to bid for
service department parking lot. Council President Buckholtz requested a motion to amend the
agenda. Mr. Saponaro, seconded by Ms. Cinco, made a motion to amend the agenda.
ROLL CALL: AYES: All
NAYS: None
Motion Carried
Agenda Amended
A motion to authorize the engineer to go out to bid for improvements to the parking
lots at the Civic Center and Service Department.
Mr. Marquardt, seconded by Mrs. Cinco, made a motion to authorize the engineer to go out to
bid for improvements to the parking lots at the Civic Center and Service Department.
• Ms. Calta requested discussion on an additional item with regard to the Senior Snow
Removal Program. Jeff Thomas sent a memo out on September 16t1i regarding some options
on what to do with the bids that were received in light of a bid that was received after the
12:00 deadline. There were a couple of options including rebidding.
Mr. Buckholtz indicated that it was a very comprehensive memo but very difficult to respond
to. Mrs. Cinco requested clarification with regard to the choices. Ms. Calta said that we can
make a recommendation from the law department. We have the option to extend the
contracts from last year, which there were, from my understanding, three bidders. It just
happened to be the three bidders that submitted bids this year, including the bidder that was
late. It would probably be the easiest thing to do and would not require going out to bid
again. Mayor Rinker asked what the ramifications of extending the contract were in terms of
money. Ms. Calta indicated that she does not know what the dollars were from last year
versus this year. The numbers should be lower, she does not believe they were higher last
year from this year.
Mr. Buckholtz indicated he also read in the memo that the other two contractors were having
a problem with that. Ms. Calta stated that that was the first approach that we explored which
was talking to the two contractors to see if they would be agreeable to having this third bid in
light of the fact that all three of them had contracts last year, but they were not in agreement
with doing that.
Mr. Buckholtz said that since they are not really bidding against each other and they all have
their hands full doing as many as they can handle, he does not really see where that would
come in to play. It's not competitive if there were more than the three.
