It was a beautiful day to go around town. It is very special when
someone from our community has spent so much time, truly a labor of love as Al Scaccia did. It
was bittersweet to see that change.
Mayor Rinker followed the new Santa Claus on his rounds and watched the expressions
on kids' faces and parents' faces. This is one of the most enjoyable times of the year for Mayor
Rinker. In the spirit of the holiday, a good holiday to everyone.
COMMEN'T'S FROM GUEST - DR PRICE
On behalf of the School District, Dr. Price thanked Council for associating with the Sister
Cities project. He is elated. Having been in a school district where there was a Sister City
relationship, it is great for the community and the schools. The schools cannot do it, one of the
civic entities has to be the one to take the lead on this. Sister Cities is a tremendous payoff. If you
get the right match of a city or village your size, probably somewhere in the European area, you
really start to have Council members from their site come here or you go over there. It becomes a
yearly event. The district he worked in one time, Vandalic Butler, had a relationship with
Litchenfelds, Germany and literally every year either they went there or they came over, probably
30 or 40 people, there had never been really any kind of community celebration. They started an
Oktoberfest based on that relationship. That's when they would come over and many times
Vandalic Butler would go over there at the same time. The students back then wrote letters, now
they can e-mail, but they came over. There were even some business relationships formed
because of that. Informal relationships occurred and they started to talk. It is Dr. Price's hope that
several members of Council can go to the 50"' Annual Meeting of Sister Cities in D.C. this

1
