Regular Council Meeting
12/19/05
Page 6
Mr. Buckholtz indicated that in a hotspot it won't. But we will be getting a fiberlink at the
gigabyte. Mr. Marquardt asked if we would be getting this with WiFi. Mr. Buckholtz
indicated that we would not, but we will be able to link with the County, Northeast Ohio,
anyone on it eventually if the third frontier from the State of Ohio is fiber at gigabytes. All
your laptop is equipped to pick up is the 54 if you are 811g. Mr. Marquardt indicated that we
are comparing it with what Adelphia and SBC can deliver on cable or DSL, so we are not
going to be delivering anywhere near those speeds. When reading this, Mr. Marquardt
indicated that he does not think we are comparing apples to apples.
Mr. Buckholtz indicated that we won't to the end hotspot WiFi user, but we will to
the buildings.
Mr. Marquardt added that comparing it with the aol service and Adelphia service, that
is what they are delivering over their cables. Mr. Buckholtz indicated that if they have dial
up, they are not. Mr. Brett indicated that if you were to connect on the hardware, you would
get that. Mr. Brett indicated that he was unaware that you could not and if that is the case, it
would be a drawback.
Mr. Buckholtz indicated that we will discuss this further later.
Mayor Rinker asked Dr. Price how the school would use it. Dr. Price indicated that
he would be very interested. Frank Cikach, Mayfield's tech person would like to get the
information on this. We would explore our applications. It is obvious that there is real
potential there, especially the whole wireless aspect. That is where education is moving too.
That is part of it. That capability would be great for the school. Anything that Council has,
feel free to send over so that he can start to look at it. It will really affect their long term
plans. This may be a more advanced way of looking at it.
POLICE - Chief Dearden
Nothing to report.
PARKS & RECREATION -Bill Thomas
Mr. Thomas reported that winter break camp co-sponsored with Mayfield Community
Ed will be held beginning this Thursday, December 22"d and next Tuesday through Thursday
for kindergarten through 6th grade students.
