Regular Council Meeting
4-18-OS
Page 2
COMMENTS FROM MAYOR RINKER
Mayor Rinker said kind of segueing from the comments from Senator Grendell, if some of you
haven't noticed already, we are starting to move into our Civic Center. Administrative offices
and Parks & Recreation have moved in. Not too long from now we will be able to see Building
Department move in as well and they just started ripping up the floor in Phil's office-to-be,
upstairs. It is nice to see the headway. Really, any of those who recall what we saw before and
what we've seen already, the carpentry work is just superb. This is a guy who really takes pride
in his work and it is interesting because the other tradesmen who are in there have taken note
and I'd like to think that it builds a winning tradition. It is very good quality stuff and something
we'll be very proud of. Already, some residents who've gotten a glimpse are pleased with what
they have seen. Mayor Rinker said, from that, we do have in front of us tonight looking to a commitment the
analogy I would make is like a letter of intent where if Council approves would be to support
the Fairmount Program. We are looking to renovate this fine facility in any event and what
better opportunity than to pave the way for a full scale arts program. So I am very excited about
it and hopeful that Council will be satisfied because this is a commitment the Village really is
ready and willing to make.
Mayor Rinker said finally and not least, we have very exciting creative opportunity in the
business area of Econorriic Development. Mr. Panzica is here, Ms. Horton is here and we have
some people who are willing to invest in Mayfield Village if Mayfield Village is willing to (
invest in th,em. We tried to present-Phil worked out the details following the last Caucus of a
way in which we could provide mutual incentives for investment strategy for accelerator
business program that I think is novel, I think it is going to be very functional and in many
respects for a lot of the concerns we have had for redevelopment strategies in Beta, this is ideal.
Hopefully, this will also receive Council's favor tonight. Thank you.
COMMENTS kROM COUNCIL PRESIDENT BUCKHOLTZ
Council President Buckholtz said my comments I will keep brief. I would also like to recognize in
the audience Tom Fulton, the Executive Director for Fairmount Center. Once again, I want to thank him for our last meeting which we had a special meeting and we had a presentation and we had a lot
of people come before Council to make their case for whatever their issue is-but"I have never seen
singing and dancing in the kind of high quality professional entertainment and the conversation
about building backbone in children and building youth in a way that we have not been able to
provide in this community. So, once again, thanks fbr coming.
Council President Buckholtz said the only other comment is if anyone was confused if we were
having a special meeting tonight, that was kind of a glitch in the matrix. That was a left-over piece
of item from our Caucus when we had a special meeting. This is our special meeting and our regular
meeting and that is all we have tonight and those are my comments.
(
