Regular Council Minutes
5/16/OS
Page 12
Mrs. Mills said strangely enough, you don't hear anything about what is going on in Gates
Mills because they have wells being drilled there. What bothers me is when these wells go
dry and you try to get the state to come in and cap them, and it takes forever for them to
act.
Council President Buckholtz said that stuff sat on my front yard for 2 years.
Mrs. Mills said they were very tardy in doing it. It is just like when they did strip mining.
They took the minerals out of the land and that was it. They didn't go any farther.
Council President Buckholtz said I guess what I wanted from Council tonight was if you
want to discuss it more we will just put it on Caucus for June. But I would at least like to
send a message through-we could do a Resolution in title. If that is okay with everybody,
Joe, could we do a Resolution in title of our giving our support. And if we want to get
involved more we can just put that then for discussion at Caucus, unless anyone wants to
do that tonight as an ordinance.
Dr. Parker said I don't think we have enough information to do anything tonight or to have
a Resolution supporting it. We may want to allow it but only under circumstances instead
of saying flat out no. obviously there may be situations in which a person, perhaps in a
remote area of their property or something and it is not going to be an eyesore, etc. etc.
Council President Buckholtz asked are you talking about Mayfield Village?
Dr. Parker said Mayfield Village; I thought what we need to do is find out what the
regulations are from the State (I thought it would be nice to get their regulations) and then
maybe look at creating our own.
Mrs. Mills said but it is state regulated.
Dr. Parker said we have to look at their regulations first, I think
Council President Buckholtz said before we do an ordinance, correct.
Mr. Marrie said from what I read, they have the right to drill, basically, wherever they
want. The last place you figure they would be drilling is in the cemetery and they are and
have and they have gone on private property. I understand, personally that is, if somebody
has 40 acres and they want to put it on the back two acres or something like that, that is
fine but the state-and correct me if I am wrong, Joe-has the right to put it wherever they
want to go.
Mr. Diemert said they have usurped all local control over it.
Council President Buckholtz said we can allow it-but it is the idea that right now we have
no say-
