Regulat Council Meeting
2-19-01
Page 11
buying power at 10 cents are marking up to $1.00 and reselling it. Yet the savings they are
pointing to is oniy 6 to 8%. The margins of money being made in this business are huge. They
are not a provider of power so I would only ask (I don't know if I will be able to make that
meeting) but if you have any further insights on Green 1Vlountain or can gleam them...
Mayor Rinker said the points are there. I think what we are finding in this marketplace with
deregutation is that there are alt kinds of movement out there. It was very interesting ta see ane
of the very first comments, reactions, was against (and I thought the P.D. article was preity
decent; it had a pretty good balance of points of view.) There was a tYting on NPR today too
talking about the altemative sources of power. Tliese guys apparently did a lot of negotiating
and discussion. It is still not a done deal and there is a vvindow of time €or eonfirmation across
the board. That is why Iwas encouraging everyone to attend this meeting. I fully expect the
topic of discussion will be why Green Mountain and not the other provider, what are the benefits,
what about some of the points that you bring up. At the end of the day because of the number of
people involved (and I think trying to leverage in the marketplace) there being certain judgment
calls. They need to be asked those questions--why they did it one way and not a.nother.
Mr. Ilacqua asked Mayor Rinker if he will have a vote.
Mayor Rinker said I have no idea. The way they are convening this, it sounds to me like they
will be looking for some type of motion from the floor for an affirmation or modification or a
rejection.
Mr. Ilacqua said I am not sure if I will able to attend. They are simply a broker; anyone that has
a license can go out and buy the power and resell it.
Mayor Rinker said I don't know how the bids went out but I don't imagine any broker was
precluded. In all of this, what is the array of people that we are dealing with--how is one better
or worse than another--I do not know.
Mrs. Mills said thank you for your support for your monetary contribution. We talked about the
room decorations at Caucus. At the Historical meeting, everyone was very pleased with the
outcome and they a11 said thank you very much.
Mrs. Cinco said I talked to Pete at Progressive. There are a number of residents at the
Progressive Fitness Center. A number ofwomen have requested ciasses for residents since most
of the classes are geared towards Progressive lunch hours. Pete will be sending out a letter to
Vitlage residents which Ithink is wonderful. They have bent over backwa.rds to be hospitable--
trying to find a time that Mayfield Village residents would like to come to classes.
Mr. Thomas they are aiso allowing N1ayfield Viiiage residents to bring guests on Fridays after 4
p.m. and on weekends. Itis great.
Mr. Ilacqua asked if they will ever open it to businesses.
Mr. Thomas said the agreement calls for Mayfield Village residents.
