MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF COUNCIL
Mayfield Village
May 21, 2001
The Council of Mayfield Village met in regular session on Monday, May 21, 2001 at 8:00 p.m.
in the Mayfield Village Senior Center/Community Room. Council President Bill Marquardt
presided.
ROLL CALL: Present: Mr. Buckholtz, Mr. Busa, Mrs. Cinco, Mr. Ilacqua,
Mr. Marquardt, and Mrs. Mills
Absent: Dr. Parker
Also Present: Mayor Rinker, Mr. Brett, Mr. Cappello, Mr. Diemert,
Mr. Metzung, Chief Mohr, Mr. Samac, Chief Stevens,
Mr. Thomas and Mrs. Roman
The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag was given.
OPEN PORTION
Jim Farmer, 6515 Derby Driv - said I am here tonight on behalf of the Planning & Zoning
Commission. Council has a motion before it tonight to amend particular provisions of our
ordinances. These motions are the product of over a year's worth of work examining both our
ordinances and zoning classifications, particularly as they pertain to Beta Drive. From time to
time, Planning & Zoning is faced with applicants who want to locate a business within Mayfield
Village and because of the length of the current process or the limit to the currently specified
land uses, we lose prospective businesses that we view as desirable for the Village and that
would be well received by its citizens. As part of our process, we invited all of the land owners
on Beta Drive to a meeting for discussions and we used David Hart, a City Planner, for periodic
consultations. We had Bernie Samac research our ordinances and those of other communities.
We're not necessarily bent on changing our ordinances, but felt it was a healthy exercise to
review them and see if some change was in order after 20 years of Beta Drive. It was generally
felt that the original warehouse use of Beta Drive had run its course and that perhaps there were
other, more profitable, more citizen-oriented uses that could be. made of some of the properties.
Most residents have little or no direct contact with Beta Drive. Besides the hotel at one end and
the racquet club at the other, there is little to draw our residents to that area. We are receiving
requests from medical offices and recreational activities or facilities which would be a great
convenience to our residents and would let them enjoy these services and activities without .
having to leave the Village. After a year, we have really come up with very few requested
changes. We are not a very radical group, with me as the youngster at age 50, and we weren't
looking for change just for the sake of change. Parking always seems to be a big factor with new
uses. Although our parking ordinances match up with those of other Hillcrest communities, after
consulting with David Hart and others, we learned they are still to be considered onerous. Under
the suggested changes, Planning & Zoning will still be guided by our ordinances current
schedule of parking, but we would be given some flexibility to use discretion where after
