Regular Council Meeting
May 21, 2001
Page 7
Mrs. Cinco said she wonders if this would be a good compromise. To grant a variance is a
hardship--and not being a hardship-you are thinking out a breezeway anyway and it wouldn't
need a variance.
Mr. McGill said one of the big things about having a breezeway-is that it could not be done at
the same time. We would like to request the variance.
Mr. Buckholtz asked Mr. Samac for clarification if residents are not permitted to build detached
garages per our code.
Mr. Samac said we require a minimum of a two-car attached garage but they can put a detached
garage in addition providing they have access to it with a vehicle. There are many ono-car and
two-car detached garages that were in before the ordinance was enacted.
Mayor Rinker asked Mr. Samac to draw a footprint of the property.
Mr. Samac drew the footprint showing the existirig home and garage and the proposed garage
and breezeway.
Mr. McGill said his wife does not want the garage attached.
Mayor Rinker said you understand that if you have only one garage on the property it has to be
attached. He asked if there was any discussion as to how you would attach it to comply-- did he
just reject that option.
Mr. McGill said if you wanted a garage detached, you had to get a variance.
Mayor Rinker asked what it would take to attach.
Mr. McGill said it is about $15,000 more. He was curious about a breezeway. (He referenced
the pictures.)
Mayor Rinker said we don't have the history of those garages. Those people may be
grandfathered in. If your wife doesn't want the garage adjacent to the master bedroom but there
is a logic behind connecting the two-he is trying to understand the logic of not connecting.
Mr. McGill said if it is connected, the gas and electrical would have to be moved over.
Mayor Rinker said those could be done.
Mr. McGill said correct.
Council President Marquardt asked if there were any further comments.
There were none.
