Regular Council Meeting
May 21, 2001
Page 6
OLD BUSINESS
Variance Itequest - Two-car Detached Garage - Joseph & Patricia McGill, 6811
Eastgate Drive
Council President Marquardt asked Mr. Samac if he would explain the request.
Mr. Samac said the McGills have requested a variance to construct a two-car detached garage at
their home at 6811 Eastgate Drive. The Board of Appeals turned the request down. The
McGills appealed to Council last month but due to a number of absent Council members, they
opted to come back to tonight's meeting. Mr. McGill is in the audience.
Council President Marquardt requested a motion prior to further discussion.
Mrs. Cinco, seconded by Mrs. Mills, made a motion to approval of the variance request of
Joseph & Patricial McGill for a two-car detached garage at 6811 Eastgate Drive.
Council President Marquardt asked Mr. McGill if he wished to comment.

Mr. McGill said we live in a very unique lot where Eastgate and Meadwood come together. We
would like to build a detached garage about 10' from the garage that is there now. We are
having another baby tomorrow and would like to put another bedroom and bathroom in the
garage that is there now. My wife did not want the garage right next to the bedroom so we
would like to build a detached garage. The garage would be fashioned to match the house the
way it looks now. The garage that is there now would be faced with brick to match the house
and it will look like part of the house. He would like to have a foundation put in for a breezeway
in case they ever put one in. We only had one complaint about a detached garage. He found
quite a few detached garages throughout the Village. (He showed photos of several.) Our
garage would look like the house.
Mrs. Mills questioned if a breezeway would require a building permit.
Mr. Samac said yes.
Mr. McGill said he wants it built with the foundation. The only difference between his and those
in the photos-is he wants his to look like the house. His wife does not like to go outside in the
winter and he would like the possibility of putting a breezeway in. It would look like one
continuous house. It would be angled so the farthest point would look like it all belonged.
Mrs. Cinco asked if he went ahead with the breezeway-would a variance be required.
Mr. Samac said if he requested a breezeway it would have to go back to the Architectural
Review Board but no variances would be needed. He meets all setback requirements.
