MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF COUNCIL <br />Mayfield Village <br />June 18, 2001 <br />'I'he Council of Mayfield Village met in regular session on Monday, June 18, 2001, at 8:05 p.m. <br />in the Mayfield Village Senior Center/Community Room. Council President Bill Marquardt <br />presided. <br />ROLL CALL: Present: Mr. Buckholtz, Mr. Busa, Mrs. Cinco, Mr. Ilacqua, <br />Mr. Marquardt, Mrs. Mills and Dr. Parker <br />Absent: None <br />Also Present: Mayor Rinker, Mr. Brett, Mr. Cappello, Lt. Dearden, Mr. Diemert, <br />Lt. Girbino, Mr. Metzung,lVlr. Samac, Mr. Thomas and <br />Mrs. Roman <br />The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag was given. <br />OPEN PORTION <br />Mrs. Nynke Pierce - 7000 Upper Forties Drive - introduced herself and said: I live at 7000 <br />Upper Forty Drive. I want to speak in oppositionto Ordinance No. 2001-12, which would <br />authorize $28,024 for an armored vehicle. It is not just the cost I object to, but also what we <br />would get for it. I would oppose it even if it were free. The role of the Police in a civil society is <br />to protect and to serve the citizens. I believe that giving the police military equipment provides <br />them with a serious temptation to adopt a military role of seizing territory and destroying the <br />enemy. The hideous experience in another Cleveland suburb several years ago where the police, <br />equipped with a military vehicle, destroyed a home and the family within it, is a case in point. <br />Mayfield will be a safer place-and the Mayfield Police will be more professional-if we do not <br />have an armored vehicle. <br />CONSIDERATION OF MINUTES <br />Regular Council Meeting - May 21, 2001 - Mr. Busa, seconded by Mr. Ilacqua, made a motion <br />to approve the minutes. <br />ROLL CALL: AYES: Mr. Buckholtz, Mr. Busa, Mrs. Cinco, Mr. Ilacqua, Mr. <br />Marquardt, Mrs. Mills and Dr. Parker <br />NAYS: None <br />Motion Carried <br />Minutes Approved <br />
