Regular Council Meeting
7-9-01
Page 2
COMMENTS FROM IvIAYOR RINKER
Mayor Rinker said he was happy to announce that a new police officer, Kevin Miller, will be
sworn in tonight. Kevin graduated from Mayfield in 1994, from the University of Toledo in
1998--he got his Batchelor's in Criminal Science. He has worked for us on a part-time basis and
we have received very good reports all across the board.
Mayor Rinker administered the oath of office to Kevin Miller as a full-time patrolman.
Mayor Rinker had no further comment.
COMMENTS FROM COUNCIL PRESIDENT MARQUARDT
Council President Marquardt had no comments.
DEPARTMENT HEAD REPORTS
Service - Mr. Metzung said the first project of the Infrastructure Drainage Committee was
completed last week. Mr. Samac took pictures of it. They did an outstanding job and it turned
out beautiful. We had a big rain last week and he has heard no complaints from that
neighborhood so things must be going well. It was in the Hardwood Court area.
Parks & Recreation - Mr. Thomas said 140 people attended the 2"d annual Cedar Point excursion
on June 29. There were 415 people in the pool participating in a variety of activities. The 2nd
annual Summer Sizzler was held on Sunday, July lst. There were 330 swimmers and 28
individual swim teams represented at that event. Last year we had 208 swimmers and 21 teams.
This is one of the premier swim events of the summer for a lot of the swimmers and he is pleased
to sponsor it. Close to 200 runners and walkers participated in the 1 lth annual Debbie Hudacko
Memorial Run yesterday. On July 11, we will take 90 whitewater rafter participants to
OhioPyle, Pennsylvania for the trip. The first annual Mayfield Village Triathlon will be held on
Sunday. We have over 30 participants at this time. This is the first year we have done it. There
will be swimming at Parkview Pool, biking down North Commons Boulevard and running
through the wetlands. We expect that this program will grow. We are in the process of
finalizing the fall brochure. One of our residents suggested an after-school bowling program for
Middle School students. He thinks it's an excellent suggestion and is anticipating that a lot of
students will sign up for the program. It'll begin on Fridays from September to October 26 and
then we will do our Winter Program.
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS
Activities Committee - Mrs. Roman said the Activities Committee is taking a break after the last
event of the Summer--the 4th of July celebration. The fireworks and concert were good. We will
have concerts at the Gazebo every Thursday and still need volunteers.
Mayor Rinker said each year we try to work on the sound system and we had an excellent sound
system [at 4th of July] this year. As each band comes in [for the Thursday concerts], we are
