Regular Council Meeting
8-13-01
Page 6
Council President Marquardt asked if there were any further comments.
Council President Marquardt said he talked to Chief Stevens also. The only issue he still has is that
there is no operating procedure for this. He believes that an operating procedure is necessary--not
only to say when this vehicle is going to be used, but when it is not going to be used. This is a
vehicle that should never be displayed with pride, never go in parades or displayed at community
home days, etc. This vehicle should be kept locked away and used when it's needed. He hopes that
goes into the operating procedure and is abided by all the communities. This is not a point of pride;
it is really a failure of our society that requires this type of vehicle.
Chief Stevens said after their conversation, he talked with a majority of the SPAN Chiefs who also
share our concern. He volunteered to be one of the authors of that policy with the understanding that
we can be overruled by the Mayors but he doubts they would be on this issue.
Council President Marquardt said he understands the need for the vehicle but thinks we should keep
it under wraps and not have it perceived to be a show of force.
There were no further comments.
Roll Call: AYES: All
NAYS: None Motion Carried
Resolution Adopted
OPEN PORTION - 3 minute limit imposed by Chair.
