Special Council Meeting
8-27-01
Page 6
to get married? In looking back I could probably name a dozen people today that I
have helped substantially in their claims. I think that is part of the process, too. I
know the Village, I know the direction you are going. Unforiunately, I have been in a
corner and some of you people haven't been on Council for a period of time but I
have been in a corner. I've brought the numbers and Phil will verify that. I have files
every year that I save and I've come back with numbers but we haven't been able to
move. So you put me in a situation that you are moving for numbers that are on the
if-come versus numbers that would be hard and solid. I do agree, 100%, the
Committee has to be established. I believe that is the first point, to get that
established, get the people involved, get the critical mass and the data that you need
together to go forward, design a plan, design the options, make some presentations.
At that point in time, see who has the best numbers and who you feel comfortable
with. It is no different than accepting bids on the pool or accepting bids on a contract.
You don't name a contractor and then go with what he brings to the table. You look
at the numbers and look at what the contractor can do and how he delivers the process
to you. I think that is very important.
Mr. Barrett said that somebody had mentioned that it's not a very big account in the
scheme of things, that it's not big for me, it's not big for Hopkins. It is big for me
because every account is big. That is the way I do business. I pride myself on the
fact of dealing with my clients in making sure things are correct. I don't know where
that came from. Every account is just as important as the other one. That is my
business. That is my creditability, it's my integrity. That's what I try to bring to the
table every time I have done something with the Village. As far as saving money,
that's going to be all a function of how the plan is designed and described and how
you go forward with respect to that. I have kind of said my peace, I would
respectively ask you to reconsider naming an Agent of Record today. I would
respectively ask that you do that at renewal. If at that point in time, that is the
decision you make I can live with that. Right now, it really puts a stone in my shoe
with respect to where we are at and where we've been.
Dr. Parker asked so, is what you are saying that we can do everything we want to do as far as doing
censusing, figuring out where people stand as far as their claims and everything, going to the various
companies, developing the various potential plans and everything. We can do all that or some other
agent could do that and it would not need to be the Agent of Record.
Mr. Barrett said because it's an under 50 plan, there are no claims history. There is no claims
experience. I talked with the people today. I asked for them. I couldn't get them. It's not going to
happen. Everybody had packages and I will give that out to you again as far as where we've been
and going backwards with the plan. Phil has presented everybody when they had the 4 different
people come out with respect to census data and everything. That is all you need to quote an under
50 case. You know what your current numbers are, they have the current numbers. As a matter of
fact, Hopkins came in ... with current numbers--those are just numbers. We haven't gone through
the underwriting process in putting things together. Plus soinebody talked about pre-existing
