Regular Council Meeting
9-24-01
Page 2
Special Council Meeting - August 27, 2001 - Mr. Busa, seconded by Mr. Ilacqua, made a motion
to approve the minutes.
Roll Call: AYES: All
NAYS: None Motion Carried
Minutes Approved
COMMENTS FRQM MAYOR RINKER
Mayor Rinker said he had a happy note and a solemn note. We will start with the happy. It is
my pleasure to swear in the newest member of the Architectural Review Board: Ron Dinardo of
Seneca. He is a 1988 graduate of Ohio State University School of Architecture. We are happy
to have you here.
Mayor Rinker administered the oath of office to Ron Dinardo as a member of the Architectural
Review Board.
Mayor Rinker read a resolution he had prepared in response to the events that happened on
September l lth. (He read Resolution No. 2001-05.) Mayor Rinker said he will be asking that
Council consider this legislation tonight. It is not intended to be a quick response but in fact to
allow our community to respond in a way over time--and he suggests over the next couple of
months--to see if we can perhaps generate a solid monetary contribution that we can send to
these people. I don't know what else we can say except that we hope in the days to come and the
years to come that this is a battle, a campaign, that we will all win.
COMMENTS FROM COUNCIL PRESIDENT MARQUARDT
Council President Marquardt said he echoes Mayor Rinker's comments and supports the
resolution as well. It is a terrible tragedy we suffered and the Village needs to speak out on it.
DEPARTMENT HEAD REPORTS
Fire - Lt. Porter said the Fire Department went out last Monday and collected over $11,000 for
the firefighters in New York City. We still have contributions coming in today. The response
from the community has been terrific.
Parks & Recreation - Mr. Thomas said the dedication of our two new soccer fields took place on
Sunday, Septeinber 9. Mayor Rinker, Council members Mills and Buckholtz, representatives
from the Mayfield Soccer Club and School Programs were represented. A formal ribbon-cutting
cereinony kicked off the use of the fields that day. The fields are being maintained wonderfully
by our Service Dep?artment. He cited the many organizations and clubs who will be using the
fields. Fifty-six 6t and 7th grade students have signed up for an after-school bowling program.
This program was suggested by Mayfield Village resident Michele Buckholtz. With the success,
we are looking at offering Session 2 during November and December. I met with the High
School Teen Advisory Board and they will begin planning the November activities of bands, dee
