875 Worton Park Drive
Mayfield Village, OH 44143
October 12, 2001. .
State Senator: District 22
Ron Amstutz
State House
Columbus, OH 43215-0604
Dear Senator Amstutz:
It has been over six years that I became a resident of Worton Park Drive in
Mayfield Village, Ohio. I moved to .this lovely ar.ea for my children to grDwup in a
wonderful community and have a safe environment to reside in.
Since 1995 when we moved in, my family has experienced rusty water that
would periodically appear. At times it would be for days and other times only last a
day or one-half hour (after running all faucets for 30 minutes or longer). Numerous
calls would be made to the Village to find out if they knew of any.thing we could do.
Sometimes we were told to check the fire d.epartment and see .if the hydrants were
being flushed anywhere nearby. Other times we were told to have the city water
- department com.e.out and check the hydran#s. So; 1would have the city vuater
department check to see if the water was safe to drink and their response was "yes",
even though it Joo.ks rusty it's okay to drink. My .respanse was "Would ya.a gi.ve your
babies or children that to drink?" I worry about my children's allergies and especially
my daugh#er's as#hma. I can'# belieue tha#.r.usty wa#er as :good .for any of us to drink.
After several complaint calls concerning the rusting water and visits from the
city waterdepartment, our hydrant was.changed in the zhopes #his wouJd help our
situation. Still, bouts of rusty water would appear, at times so bad, that the rust
residue wpuld paant my black tap drivewa.y red uuhen the hydrant -was flushed, as uuell
as rusty toilet rings, and bathtub residue. Not to mention all the trips to the drug store,
grocery store for bottled wa#er to drink, cook an, arad brush our teeth.
Another visit from the city water department was made to check the terrible
sputtering noises from the toilets, faucets, and washing machine,.led.one
representative to hook up my garden hose to the hot water tank and bring it outside to
drain. The rep told me "Do that once or tvvace aweek and you'II have no.probl$ms."
Was he crazy? With the kind of area we live in and taxes we pay, I was to do this?
