Regular Council Meeting
1-2400
Page 2
this news tonight), part of our ongoing approach in this Adxninistration is finding ways
to have other sources of money help us achieve our goals. I have just received
notification from Commissioner Jane Cainpbell that our application to the District One
Public Works Integrating Committee (this is State Issue II funding; for those of you who
have had some sewer work done, you will know that Issue II funds from the State have
been instrumental in greatly reducing costs for those two projects that we had earlier.)
This is for S.O.M. Center Road Widening. We have been recommended by DOPWIC
(which is Cuyahoga County; this has to be approved by the State) for a$350,000 grant
(that is straight payment to the Village) for the widening project and another $635,504 in
a zero interest loan. This is a pretty cool gnillion dollars that Mayfield Village adds on
to the $9 million we succeeded in securing already from O.D.O.T. This is recognition
that this is an ambitious project; it's an important project not only to those of us in
Mayfield Village, but it has a profound irxipact on our region. What we have is an
excellent opportunity for us to take dollars that are recognized statewide as important
to a larger community, nevertheless to have a very positive impact for our community.
I think this is something we should all feel encouraged -that we are working toward
some good common goals. Again, thank you all for coming here tonight.
CONIlVIENTS FROM COUNCIL; PRESIDENT MARQUA.RDT
Council President Marquardt said I want to thank all the people here that came to the
swearing in ceremony. We have a lot of volunteers in the Village. I also want to
congratulate Phil Brett. He has worked on this grant and low-interest loans for several
years now. T'his is a remarkable accomplishment.
DEPARTMENT HEAD REPORTS
Service - Mr. Metzung said he wants to thank the gentlemen in my Department for
what they take on as a typical occurrence, but when we have a snowstorm that lasts
several days like this last one, it really is a lot of work for those men. I would really like
to thank them publicly for the job that they take for granted.
Building - Mr. Samac said at the next Caucus meeting we will have the plans submitted
from Progressive for a substantial parking garage at their 300 North Commons
Boulevard site. . . =
Fire - Chief Mohr said we are getting ready to sell bicycle helmets to the community
again this Spring. Information will be included in the next Voice of theVillage.
Recreation - Mr. Thomas said we are worlcing on the Spring/Summer Parks &
Recreation Brochure that will be mailed to residents at the end of February. I will meet
