Regular Council Meefing
2-21-00
Page 9
Mayor Rinker asked the issues.
Chief Mohr said Mayfield Village rents the City of Cleveland's hydrants and water lines for
municipal fire protection. It comes to about $5,200 a year. In return, if their equipment fails they
are supposed to fix it in a timely manner. They are not doing so.
Mayor Rinker said we are documenting that. He asked how that affects our insurance rating to the
extent that we have some hydrants that are non-functioning. What do we expect they will do about
those specific hydrants
Chief Mohr said we have enough water on the trucks to bypass a hydrant tha.t is not working and go
to another hydrant. That is not enough to affect our fire rating. They have corrected the situation in
the Hanover area where there were 5 in a row (out of service.) He explained they are literally
replacing hydrants (instead of repairing.) Those hydrants are a different color.
Mayor Rinker asked if we have a ballpark number of hydrants that need to be repaired.
Chief Mohr said approximately 12.
Mayor Rinker said there should be some correspondence from the Village that the legislation is on
first reading and we would respectfully ask the City of Cleveland Water Department to give us a
-timetable for the repair and replacement of the following hydrants which our Council will then take
that into consideration as it contemplates this legislation.
Chief Mohr said they ha.ve a 16" water line going to Progressive. There has been a break at 470
S.O.M. since Christma.s.
Mr. Hovancsek thinks if the letter came from the Service Director it would have more impact.
Chief Mohr asked if Progressive is connecting between Lake County and our north end.
Mr. Hovancsek said it is shut off; Mr. Metzung and Mr. Samac said it is not connected.
Chief Mohr said Cleveland's view on that is that should Progressive request it that they would make
the tie-in with Lake County, not Mayfield Village.
Ordinance No. 2000-02 will remain on second reading.
Resolution No. 2000-02, "A Resolution expressing the sense of the Council and the Mayor urging
the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio to encourage governmental electricity aggregation and
declaring an emergency." Introduced by Mayor Rinker and Council as a Whole.
Mrs. Cinco, seconded by Mr. Busa, made a motion to adopt Resolution No. 2000-02.
