Regular Council Meeting
3-20-00
Page 15
Roll Call: AYES: All
NAYS: None Motion Carried
Ordinance Enacted
First Reading of Ordinance No. 2000-08, entitled; "An emergency ordinance authorizing an
agreement with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield as and for employee health care and
hospitalization benefits." Sinai-East) as a full service hospital with emergency
services." Introduced by Mayor Rinker and Council as a Whole.
Mr. Busa, seconded by Mrs. Cinco, made a motion to adopt Resolution No. 2000-03.
Council President Marquardt asked if there were any comments.
Mr. Buckholtz said some people may see this as marginal where we should get involved but I feel
strongly about this and feel we should get involved and make a statement. He's not sure if it is
possible to make a slight change to this: (in two spots) The Mayor and Council urge PHS,
Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals and/or any other...."
Mayor Rinker said in the articles he has read and what he is getting second hand is that there may be
an open bidding opportunity. The reality is that this marketplace, while there may be a 3rd player yet
again, to what extent and how successful they will be, we don't lrnow. Now, there is a coalition of
interest. He thinks the hospital is open to somebody who will keep this thing going forward.
