Regulaz Council Meeting
5-15-00
Page 12 :
Telerama, Inc., a subsidiary of Cablevasion, to Adelphia Communications Corporation
subject to the agreements on senior citizen's discounts, Upper 40 and INET for the schools.
Mr. Busa questioned the senior citizen discount.
Mr. Ilacqua said they have negotiated with the City of Bedford Heights and are willing to
put language in the contract to give senior citizens a dollar discount on Broadcast Basic
service. We can structure this as well within the franchise agreement. With regard to
senior citizen discounts, Bedford Heights agreed to pay a 15% discount on Family
Broadcast Service, which is a tier up from Broadcast basic. The 15% off would be handled
by Cablevision and then deducted from the City of Bedford Heights' franchise fee
payments. So, we could work in a greater discount if we wish.
Mr. Busa said there are people who might need the discount and asked the percentage or
dollar value.
Mr. Ilacqua said they will receive $1.00 off cable per month. There is the potential to work
out a greater discoualt between the Village and Cablevision.
Mr. Busa he does not believe them because they did not keep their last promise.
Mr. Ilacqua said he is comfortable with it; she told him on the phone and it has been inked
out in the contracts. He knows how important it is to Mr. Busa as an issue.
Mr. Busa said they promised it last time and then they cut it without saying a word. We
had no choice. But, we have a choice now. If we don't insist upon a reasonable amount of
money now, we are not going to get it for at least 10 years.
Mr. Ilacqua asked Mr. Diemert to make sure that language is put in the contract.
Mr. Diemert said this motion you are voting on now is making it a condition for the
transfer to the new purchasers, so they will not have your approval for a new company
unless they give us what you just heard from Councilman Ilacqua.
Mr. Busa asked what he heard from Councilman Ilacqua.
Council President Marquardt said $1.00 off basic.
Mr. Diemert said Lyndhurst and Bedford Heights have accepted it. Some communities
have not asked for it, so they didn't get it.
Mr. Ilacqua said he thinks there will be better cable sexvice for evexyone.
