Regular Council Meeting
9-23-02
Page 5
Cleveland.
Resident Sue Longo, Derby Drive: The Mayor has a committee that is kind of getting an
idea of where the City is going. Does that committee have an awareness of what's
happening and are they meeting regarding that?
Mayor Rinker said there is a gentleman sitting in front of you that can speak to that
directly, referring to Bill Riter of the Vision 2020 Committee.
Resident Sue Longo: The Church property may not be there since the Church is in fact I
believe moving, it looks as if they are. The Church may not be the stopgap.
Mayor Rinker said without getting too far ahead of the game, it's the here and now. The
Church is here. The Church plans to stay here for a while. I think in the scope of the
review for the Department of Liquor Control, it's the existing circumstance. We can't
speculate on where it's going to be. We do definitely have an agreement with the Church
and understanding, but that day hasn't arrived yet. I don't think that the fact that the
_ Church has plans to move has any direct bearing on this issue right now.
Resident Sue Longo: I'm very interested in it living as close as I do to the center of town
and what happens to that little intersection.
Mayor Rinker said I can tell you without question that one of the tasks that I certainly
would expect of the committee, is that it's going to explore and examine just what the
zoning uses are in and around town and consider what the alternatives are, what they
could be, what they should be. It's a pretty open book right now. There are a lot of
different areas and a lot of different kinds of issues that deal with the overall makeup of
the community and sort of plotting a course on how to proceed economically from
services, you name it. This certainly is going to be part of it. It's among a number of
things that they would look at.
Resident Sue Longo: Thank You
Council President Buckholtz said just in closing that, I think everybody spoke to the issue
and again, the variances that are coming before us are something that these folks are
willing to forego if that's what they have to do. The most important thing is going to be
the hearing with the Liquor Control Board just so that you understand that.
! DEPARTMENT HEAD REPORTS.
