Regular Council Meeting
9-23-02
Page 6
Service - Mr. Metzung said I have two items of good news to report on. First being the
underground storage tanks that we had at the Service Department, the gas and diesel
tanks, the Bureau of Underground Tanks has given us an all clear no further action letter.
We are out of the woods as far as those go. Both of our tanks have been removed and the
sites have been deemed clean.
Council President Buckholtz asked, the Bureau of underground tanks is B.U.T.?
Mr. Metzung, yes. The second item is it appears that we've worked out an agreement
with the Cleveland Metroparks for draining of the North underpass to the pool, and that's
been a real sticking point, so it appears we have a solution up there also. Those are my
two good news reports.
Building - Mr. Samac said I just wanted to remind everyone we passed around the
Planning and Zoning workshop information and registration form for everyone who may
be interested in going. If you are, please get it back to me or Debbie as soon as possible. I
think we put an October 5th deadline on it so we can get the paperwork done. If you need
another copy, give us a holler.
Engineer - Mr. Cappello said I'd like to report that the Worton Park widening project,
the resurfacing portion is planned for this Friday. To update people on the Village Circle
electrical housing unit that was supposed to be moved, so far, I talked to the County. It is
planned to be moved, they can't give me a date right now, but I did talk to Bill Schneider
who's in charge of their pump stations and he does say they will do the work. I tried to
get a date from him, but he said right now he can't commit just yet, I can be in contact
with him.
Mayor Rinker asked Mr. Cappello to .at least write a letter to confirm the conversation.
Mr. Cappello said, yes Sir.
Fire -Chief Mohr states Fire prevention week is I believe the week of October 6th, so we
will be in the Schools passing out literature and working with Saint Francis and the
Mayfield Schools on education. We're working with Mr. Samac on the generator issue
for City Hall. It's not on the agenda, but I received from the State the cooperative bid
pricing. Bernie is now back from~vacation so tomorrow we are going to jump into that.
Parks & Recreation - Mr. Thomas said our department is offering an after school
bowling program, we have 55 students. We could have gone with more than 70. A new
chess program was started last week, we have 20 students from 1St through 3rd and 4th
through 6th grade meeting in this room here for instruction and play. We are offering a
_, ' new MVA ,the Mayfield Volleyball Association. It's very similar to our
