-~ Regular Council Meeting
9-23-02
Page 7
MBA for 4th through 6th grade girls, same concept, we have 60 girls signed up for first
time offering. We are working with the Varsity Volleyball coach, Christina Myers, who's
exceptionally enthusiastic. Both parents and her are extremely pleased with the results so
far. Our department will be working with Susan Beatty who is the Principal of the 8-9
building at the High School to develop a special event for 8th and 9th graders. This event
will occur in November, and will involve Student Council in the program. The adult
sports leagues, right now we are offering softball and soccer, we have 28 teams
participating in the fall programs. The annual Halloween window painting contest is
being marketed to students as well as working with the Art Teachers and merchants in
securing windows. The sandblasting has been completed at Parkview Pool. Painters
began prepping today and the poured-in-place will follow. Our Winter planning has
begun for our Winter brochure. The brochure will be mailed out in early November.
Council President Buckholtz asked, how many participants in the chess program?
Mr. Thomas says 20 right now for our first session. We hope to double it by next session.
Dr. Parker asked, Bill as far as weather, that poured in-place, temperature wise, how low
can we go temperature wise before they can't work on the pool?
`~ Mr. Thomas said we anticipate that work to be done before mid October. I think that
should meet their requirements. Correct me if I'm wrong, gentlemen.
Mr. Metzung said I do apologize because I did ask that question. It is temperature
sensitive, I believe anything over 50 degrees they are fine.
Mr. Thomas said we will double check that.
Dr, Parker said my question comes out of not only the concern that we can get a cold
snap, but the concern that sometimes these contractors will try to squeeze things in, so I'd
like us to be watching the temperatures to make sure that if we do get that situation,
they're not trying to put these things on when it's too cold out, and then we end up
having problems. I would like us to keep an eye on the temperatures.
Mr. Thomas says, we will do that.
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS
Activities Committee -Mayor Rinker says the person I usually defer to is enjoying
activities in Hawaii as we speak, so I'm sure she will have plenty to report on next time.
