Special Meeting Minutes
10-7-02
Page 3
- doing a temporary take. So, I'm addressing those issues directly with URS and saying, you
know, if the operator doesn't know how to handle the heavy machinery, bring in a different guy
or something. So, we are looking at those and those should be adjusted in the offer so if we
don't have to knock down a tree, we aren't going to pay somebody for it either. What ended up
happening with Zako-do we know? I mean in terms of those pillars? I assume that....
Mrs. Mills replied, he is going to repair them himself. He is being compensated to do that.
Council President Buckholtz asked, can they be moved or knocked down?
Mr. Brett said I think what probably occurred in that situation was he was given, similar to other
discussions we have had on structures, we have offered a price for them and he is probably being
allowed to buy it back at salvage. My guess is that he was going through these and if there is a
structure that is in harm's way that they are going to be reimbursed for the structure and that is
incorporated in the price.
Council President Buckholtz said well that explains the difference in prices.
Mrs. Mills said what I might say is on the 29th of this month they hope to have all of those
proposals in and pretty well taken up as far as purchasing. So, hopefully, this can happen. So,
that's an important meeting and I hope you can be there. We need to really push on URS.
Council President Buckholtz said so far they are doing a good job.
Mrs. Mills said yes; they are doing a good job but we have to make them sure that we are --
watching them closely.
Mr. Brett said for example of Mr. Zako's property, the price includes $8,000 for sandstone
pillars and an iron gate. I don't know what the provisions are for him to be able to purchase
those back. Once they've been purchased, that's now incorporated in here. That was the value
that was put on that particular structure. Then the rest of his acreage-there is also a split rail
fence there, there is "x" square feet of gravel driveway, "x" number of land at various prices per
acre, there must be different categories-then there is anticipated to be some damage to the
residue which they work out. By going in there they anticipate that even though this particular
portion of the land might not be taken, some of the residual property will be damaged by heavy
equipment or something. Those numbers are obviously a lot less. And he's going to lose 2 trees,
apparently.
Council President Buckholtz said okay. We are keeping that all compiled.
Mr. Brett said yes.
Council President Buckholtz said Doug, make a mental note if you can. I want to call Mr.
Burgess and you can make the call and find out what is the deal on the $8,000. I am just
curious-are they just knocking down those posts and the iron gate or where it is going to end
up.
