1

Regular Council Meeting
10-21-02
Page 23
approach to things. And I think just for the record I'd like to have it laid it out on the record what
this project involves. Phil?
Mr. Brett said this particular project is to address the storm water runoff that comes in off of,
primarily, Beta Drive and what we're doing at this point is taking the channel that runs behind Wiley
Field and alongside of the Racquetball Court and some properties around the bend and we're going
to lower them and restore the streambed so it would be like if you took your garden hose and had it
on high pressure, it comes out at the end at a pretty good rate of speed, if you cut a slit into the hose,
it's not going to come out as strong or as fast as when it was the whole hose. And what we're doing
here is kind of laying out, laying down the widening of the streambed in a very passive way
throughout that area around Wiley Park and around one of the properties that runs along the channel
thereby allowing the water to collect and slow down as it goes through that particular phase of the
stream. In addition, there will be some detention structures built into the stream at that point. It is
my understanding, although I haven't seen the final engineering plans-and, again, with whose
purpose is to detain and slow the water during a heavy rainfall. So, those two pieces together will be
used to slow the water at that point. Our primary contribution into this project will be the acquisition
of green space along the channel for the purpose of restoring the riverbed.
Mayor Rinker asked, and just do we have a general calculation of the acreage that is involved and
the fact that this is going to be entailed for future use-in other words, you can't build on it and it's
going to be controlled at how it can be used?
Mr. Brett replied, we are still working out the details of that but I would guess in the neighborhood
of 2 acres.
Council President Buckholtz asked, any other discussion?
There were no comments.
ROLL CALL: AYES: All
NAYS: None
Motion Carried
Expenditure Authorized
• A motion to authorize an additional expenditure in the amount of $570 to Ohio Turf
($6,590 was previously approved)
Mrs. Mills said that amount should be $650.
Mr. Metzung said no; actually the $570 is the proper-the correct amount. When I originally asked
Phil to add it to the agenda, I asked for that amount just to make sure there were no more outstanding
bills but this will be the final total.
Council President Buckholtz said so it's $6,590 which we had previously approved and now we're
asking Council to authorize an additional expenditure of $570 to Ohio Turf.
Mr. Metzung said that is correct.
-__ i
r. ~
