Regular Council Meeting
2-17-03
design specs together is not------ so I think when you cost, you can do broadbrush, ballpark
figures but the devil is in the details in a lot of these.
Mr. Marquardt said well what I was referring to is really the cost of implementing this program,
not necessarily even the projects that are under it. I mean, there's been considerable engineering
effort that's gone into this already. And we do have a definition in that plan of all the activities
that have to occur which could be estimated fairly easily, I believe. And just to bring to light,
you know, when we go after these grants to say, you know, we put umpteen thousand dollars into
just implementing this program that was mandated for us to put in and I think that should be
brought to light.
Mayor Rinker said no question.
Council President Buckholtz said I think that's an excellent suggestion and what we have to pass
at the Special Meeting at the Caucus is just the intent to do it. But I think it would be great to try
to put some figures together, associate some figures together with this, what's been put in so far,
I mean even some broad strokes, you know, of----
Mrs. Cinco said well we've kept this-very-we've tried not to box ourselves in at all. A lot of
? things we are doing already, like for instance a lot of the education. There was so much in the
- VOV tliis month; that's done. ThaYs at no extra cost. But again on a lot of these other things
we're-I want to say like most of the mandates we're doing exactly what they want minimally--
because we don't need to box ourselves in. Although in the years to come we have to set goals
that are a little bit more. By being members of the Chagrin Watershed and Euclid Creek, those
annual dues-a lot of what they are doing conforms to our park mandate also. Right at this point
I don't know that there's a big cost, is there, Doug?
Mr. Metzung said there's going to be a lot of small costs-but,y ouu know, the sweepings and the
catch basin cleanings and things of that nature that you're going to run into-the good
housekeeping measures-yes, those are all going to have costs-not a lot of real big ticket items
but when you add then up-it could turn into a significant number.
Mr. Marquardt said there's a lot of ongoing engineering efforts which you are going to pay for,
you've got some education programs that are going to have to be paid for, there's a lot of stuff in
implementing this, if you start adding them up I think you'll get a fairly good bucket of money
there.
Mr. Metzung said yes, we saw a lot of areas where we said we're going to spend the next year
trying to answer that question. We don't have it yet so we are going to take the next year to
answer those questions.
Council President Buckholtz said well if it's okay, I would make this suggestion-Tom Cappello
and I had already talked earlier today about getting together and discussing a few of the projects
that are going on this week informally and we were certainly going to corral you, Doug, into that
meeting. And I have not had a chance to read through this carefully so I will read through this, I
