Special Council Meeting
2-24-03
Page 17
t.
}
Mr. Brett said we are not applying, correct. We're designating that that would be for the first 3
acres.
Dr. Parker said that was one of my concerns that that would be constrained by the agreement to what
we could eventually---
Council President Buckholtz said he figured it out without the map.
Dr. Parker said I don't have a problem with any of the properties-acquiring any of the properties.
probably have one, as you know, a problem with the restriction based on the house and possible,
potential use that we might have, as well as perhaps Zako property-and maybe we should pay a
little more to keep it out of-out of that Issue grant so that we have more. I mean, that looks to rne,
like a much--based on where it is and the fact that it fronts on both S.O.M. and the North Commons
extension or whatever. That looks like a much more---
Council President Buckholtz said pivotal-
Dr. Paxker said pivotal piece of property. Exactly. Maybe we shouldn't link it to Issue One grants
and just bite the bullet and spend a little extra and have the potential to come from S.O.M. up to the
North Commons extension-----
Council President Buckholtz said so we don't beat a dead horse, how much are we really-how
much-I mean there's 2 restrictions we're talking about here. One is Zako talking about I'll sell you
my property, I'll lower my price, I'll give you a good price, but I want to see my house continue to
stand. And then you're saying like any federal grant monies, there's restrictions on it. I mean how
bound are we or what are we really bound to? They just want us to do remediation, don't they? And
keep a certain percentage of parkland?
Mr. Brett said I see your point. You'd make my life a lot easier over the next 4 days if that's your
tack. Because, one, I think it's a longshot to get Issue One on this.
Mayor Rinker said but be clear, you're talking the frontage of the Zako property---
Mr. Brett said I understand that but what I'm also hearing is you may not want to commit to--I
believe it's a nature conservancy that you're required to put on there. And one of the reasons that
we're taking a two-step approach with Falkner is that Step Two and Step Three we may find it to our
advantage not to go with Issue One--you know, to keep our options open.
Mr. Marrie asked, have we approached him by saying we're willing to buy the property but we're
not willing to go along with his request for the house? Have we said that to him?
Mayor Rinker said no but what we said was we didn't think it would be a problem. That's what I
said-I think what I am hearing tonight is yeah, there's some problems that have been expressed
? here.. ..
/
