Regular Council Meeting
5-19-03
Page 9
Mr. Metzung said I don't have any idea. I wasn't present at 1:30 a.m. to see.
Mayor Rinker said what we need to do is if this is something that we do not know the answer to,
we will find out the answer. I mean you are telling us what's happened and nobody doubts that it
happened but what the cause of it so it doesn't happen again is definitely something we need to
find out.
Mr. Christian said it has already happened twice.
Mayor Rinker said I hear you; this is the first I've heard of it.
Mr. Christian said now that all this swamp water is up in these ponds up front, what are you
going to do about the mosquitoes?
Mayor Rinker said that's not a West Nile situation-not that depth-to my knowledge. They are
talking about a totally different environment.
Mr. Christian said you have islands in there where you have little pockets of water laying.
Mayor Rinker said all I can tell you Mr. Christian is that we will go out and we will make sure
that things are done right. This is the first I was aware. I've heard people talking about the water
that is collected up there and that we've been aware of but the fact that you have flooding and
I'm sorry that it happened because if that's the cause of it then we'll find out and people will be
accountable for anything that they've caused.
Mr. Christian said it hasn't happened until now.
Mayor Rinker said I understand you; yes.
Council President Buckholtz said let me ask a question if I can-in conjunction with starting the
road--well, we're not starting the road yet but is there going to be water management? I mean is
this something that is scheduled to happen. Obviously there is in conjunction with building a
road. There are things we can work-and I know we are waiting for the bids to come in and
there's a process that we need to follow but in the meantime, can we look into some kind of a
way to direct the water, where it's going to ultimately go?
Mr. Metzung said there are elements of drainage going back into some of the properties to help
drain those properties. In regard to the area, the tributary, this is like the Blueberry Circle
tributary that we're discussing here. Those we have-we're working with URS and Goldberg to
date, still, in setting up water retention that will be part of both our proj ect and the Goldberg
project. Those have not been finalized because frankly we're trying to do work on their property
and you tread on a little thinner ice. But they have been very amenable to it. They're working
towards that so that's something that will be there. As far as private property and things that are
such as individual cases like this, we're taking them as a case by case basis. I know with Mr.
