1Vlinutes of the Regular Meeting of Council
Monday, June 19, 2017
Page 3
COlVIMENTS FROM MAYOIt BODNAR.
I have a couple things to report tonight. Last week, I attended a Mayor's conference in Dublin,
Ohio. We went over several different issues that affect our govenunent and lots of other sinall
town govenunents in Ohio. We talked about the different facets of Governor Kasich's budget.
That is still going back and forth. We don't have anything fiiial on that yet. We talked about
Veteran's Services, Economic Development, I got to'meet with representatives from NOPEC and
RITA. We talked about medical inarijuana. Again, that is still soinewhat in the state of flux.
They are still working on the regulations for that. One of the things I wanted to report on was the
small cell litigation. There are several lawsuits that have been filed in the State of Ohio seeking
to declare that legislation unconstitutional. In each of those lawsuits, several cities and villages
are represented as plaintiffs and we are one of thein. I ain happy to report that in the one.that was
filed in Franklin County in Columbus, there was a motion for summary judgment filed by the
plaintiff. The Court in that case did rule that the legislation was unconstitutional in that it violates
the civil subject rule which is a bunch of inumbo jumbo, but basically that's good news for us so
hopefully the other courts will follow suit.
I would like to remind everybody that the grand opening of tlie bandshell at The Grove is Friday,
June 30'" at 7:30 p.ln. There will be non-alcoholic champagne for everybody so please join us
there. It will be followed by the Michelle Romary Band. Sinokin'. Q's is open so stop by there
and give it a try if you haven't yet.
And now to the inain event, we are swearing in one proinotion for the Fire Department and tlu-ee
brand-new full-time firefighters. .
SWEARINGIN CEREMONY:
- Steven M. Conti - Full-Tiine Fire Lieutenant Class B
- David Soriano - Full-Time Firefighter/Paramedic Class C
- Matthew Martin - Full-Time Firefighter/Paramedic Class C
Ryan Fowler - Full-Time Firefighter/Paramedic Class C
The oaths of office were administered separately to each individual.
Council President Saponaro stated, at this point, we are going to take a break and celebrate. Up
towards Reserve Hall there is cake and refreshments. If everyone wants to adjourn there, we will
take a short break.
Council took a break at 8:14 p.m.
Council returned at 8:24 p.m.
Council President Saponaro stated, we are back on tl-ie record, so again, congratulations to all the
firefighters who were sworn in.
