I'ROPOSED SYSTEM
S O FT WARE
The following . software modules have been proposed to meet all of the Yequirements stated by
VILLAGE.
LaseYFiche Avante for SQL Express includes Woikflow
Laserfiche Full Named users (2 user) includes Snapshot and Email
LASERFICHE NT CLIENT/SERVER
Design Concept
LaserFiche Client/ServeY was designed specifically for Microsoft Server 2008 or greateY. It utilizes
the superiox performance of client/seiveY architecture to offer useYS greater efficiency and power,
inaking it an attractive enterprise-wide solution. LaserFiche was created to provide mainframe
performance on the client/server platform for effective, affordable enterprise-wide document
unaging. This design also makes future expandability across a netwoYk practical.
LaserFiche uses true client/server aYChitecture, distinct fYOm some applications that use this texm
but are actually Windows-based file-sharing applications. LaseYFiche's serveY engine runs on the
unaging serveY, which manages the document database. The client, which manages the user
inteiface, is an application that runs on a standard Microsoft Windows PC: The client passes only
information requests to the server, and the server ieturns only xequested information to the client.
The result is a dramatic reduction in network data traffic and complete insulation of the database
from client intexrupts.
Under this arcliitecture, Laserriche performs foldeY and document management tasks on the servex,
and performs scanning, OCR, image compiession-decompxession, and most user inteYface functions
on the client. Heavy disk I/O throughput is confined to the server and never transferred ovei the
network lines, and the client never opens database ftles duecdy. It also reduces overall system
memory requu:ements, freeing the client to focus on user-oriented functions like a gxaphical user
interface (GUI). Finally, it utilizes the full 32-bit processing capabilities of the Intel Pentium
instiuction sets.
Open Ai•chitect.ui•e
LaserFiche is designed to plug easily into existing networks. Neithei the client nor the server
software make or require modifications to the existing operating system. As a Windows application,
it Yuns on industiy-standard Intel-based PCs, and suppoits most Windows-compatible printeis and
monitors.
LaseiFiche uses standard file forinats and data structures. All unages are stored as TIFF or
JPEG/TIFF objects and text is stored as ASCII. Cuirently, LaserFiche uses MS SQL as its
database. Tlus database is a Level 2 ODBC coinpliant relational database that fully integrates with
Oxacle, Sybase, Informix, Microsoft SQL and other industiy standard databases.
1'\?/ARli
\iAYl?11;1,ll \'1L],AGli. ],ASIiR1?IC1-I1: DOCU\413N'1' ]\4AGING 5?'S'1'1?\I 501"
RECORDS IMAGING SERVICE 3
