Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council <br />Monday, November 19, 2018 <br />Page 2 <br />Comments from Mavor Bodnar <br />Mayor Bodnar stated; our Fire Chief Carcioppolo aimounced at an earlier meeting that our very <br />Assistant Fire Chief/Fire Marshal Mike Girbino was awarded the Ohio Fire Service <br />Distinguished Service Award earlier in September. It's a very special award because it is <br />awarded to only one person in the entire State. I think all of us in Mayfield Village know that we <br />have the best First Responders anywhere in the country. Tonight I have the honor of reading a <br />Proclamation to our Assistant Fire Chief/Fire Marshal and honoring the best of the best. <br />Assistant Fire Chief/Fire Marshal Girbino, if you would join me, I would like to read a <br />Proclamation in your honor. . <br />PROCLAMATION CONGi2ATULATING ASSISTANT FIRE CHIEF MICHAEL <br />GIRBINO ON IZECEIVING THE OHIO FIRE SERVICE DISTIlOGUISI3ED SERVICE <br />AWARD <br />WHEREAS, Assistant Fire Chief Michael Girbino has spent the last 32 years of his life <br />dedicated to the fire service, improving fire safety messaging and going above and beyond to <br />keep the citizens of Mayfield Village and the State of Ohio safe; <br />WHEREAS, Assistant Chief Girbino began his career with the Mayfield Village Fire <br />Department in 1986. Throughout his career, Assistant Chief Girbino held the ranks of <br />Firefighter, Paramedic, Lieutenant, Assistant Chief and Fire Marshal. He singlehandedly created <br />the Department's Fire Prevention Bureau and is credited with producing all of the public safety <br />education programs the Mayfield Village Fire Department provides to its citizens today; <br />WHEREAS, Assistant Chief Girbino is responsible for securing a variety of grants that have <br />benef tted the community and has worked with local legislators to implement many safety <br />initiatives, most notably, working to revise Ohio's Residential Code to require that all new <br />residential homes have both ionization and photoelectric smoke alarm sensing technology on <br />every level of the home in order to provide occupants with a higher level of safety; <br />WHEREAS, Assistant Chief Girbino has been a member of the Northeast Ohio Fire Prevention <br />Association since the eaxly 1990s and has served on its Executive Board since 2009. He was <br />recently asked to serve on the Board of the Building Officials Conference of North East Ohio as <br />a cooperating member, a role which helps bridge the gap between building officials and fire code <br />officials in an effort help foster a more cohesive relationship and understanding of the Ohio <br />Building and Fire Codes; and <br />WHEREAS, at an awards ceremony held on September 20, 2018, after being nominated by Fire <br />Chief Eugene Carcioppolo, Assistant Chief Girbino was presented with the State of Ohio's <br />Distinguished Service Award, which award was presented to him by Ohio Lt. Governor Mary <br />Taylor and Ohio State Fire Marshal Jeff Hussey. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that I, Mayor Brenda T. Bodnar, on behalf of <br />Council and the residents of Mayfield Village, ain honored to recognize Assistant Chief Michael <br />Girbino for his exceptional efforts in making Mayfield Village and the State of Ohio a safer <br /> <br /> <br />
