Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council <br />Monday, November 19, 2018 <br />Page 3 <br />place to live. I congratulate him on receiving this well-deserved award and thank him for his <br />dedication to fire safety and this community. <br />Comments from Council President Saponaro <br />Council President Saponaro stated, we have some cookies. Please feel free to nosh on some <br />cookies while we continue this exciting ineeting. . <br />My comments are to congratulate Michael and the Fire Department on a job well done and a <br />much-deserved award. You may wish reconsideration of retirement. Just throwing it out there. <br />}OPEI?TPORTION <br />- For Public Comment (5-minute limit imposed by Chair) <br />There were no comments. <br />DEPAItTMENT HEAD REPORTS: <br />Mary Betsa (Council) <br />. Records Commission - We are coordinating a meeting. I will let everyone know when <br />that is. <br />. Volunteer Firefighter's Dependents Fund Board - Will be meeting on Monday, <br />December 3ia at 6:30 p.m. <br />. Civfl Service Commission - The Assessment Center for Police Chief is on December <br />8"1'. Sign-ups are continuing on the Assistant Fire Chief/Fire Marshal position. <br />Tom Cappello (Engineer) - A quick update on the Thornapple/Robley project. The asphalt <br />basin's intermediate courses are down. Next week they should be done with the aprons. <br />Weather permitting, we would do the surface course. <br />Ron Wynne (Finance) - Just an update on the quoting process for the Village employees' health <br />insurance. I met with our consultants last week. They have gotten all of the bids in from the <br />different carriers. Aetna and United Healthcare declined quoting on the group. Anthem was not <br />competitive at all and came in with a 54% increase over what we were receiving in the past. <br />Cigna came in at a 9`/4% increase. Summa Care came in at 25.12%. Medical Mutual, wluch is <br />our cun•ent carrier came in with an increase of 7.19%. Medical Mutual was the best out of the <br />lot. I spoke with our insurance carrier today and asked them to go back to them and negotiate the <br />best deal possible for the group. The Healthcare Task Force will be meeting with him tomorrow <br />to review all of the proposals ai1d come back to Council with a final recommendation for next <br />year.
